Game crashes when I try to enter a server or go to audio settings

Post by ImFooKinMiKE »

Hello, So I formated my PC recently cause of a problem I've been having with windows 11. I had to install windows 11 all again, not changing anything on my machine other than deleting everything and installing a fresh Windows 11 on it. So I installed the game like I always do all the same, recover my old Profile and lunch the game.

Firstly: I tried to start adjusting my audio settings (in game) it crashes automatically without any error attached to it.
Secondly: I tried to enter an Online server or create a private one and it crashes all the same but this time I get an error about Directx 9 saying (on the attachment):
Text: Failed to load D3DX9d_24.dll...
What I've tried for the second problem: well, I looked around on the forum and outside for related problems and solutions about this subject regarding the file "D3DX9d_24.dll";

- I've used and instaled multiple DX9 versions and packages suggested in multiple topics (dxwebsetup, directx_Jun210_redist and VC_redist.x86);

- I've Inserted the actual file "D3DX9d_24.dll" in both SysWOW64 and System32 folders;

- I've updated all the drivers I had out of date and made sure I had the game prioritized by the system and graphics card;

- And lastly made sure the antivirus wasn't blocking any activityes about the game.

Any simple solucion I have tried, didn't work so far. I was hoping I could get more insight of what the problem might be from you guys,
Thank you.

Are you using some kind of wireless/bluetooth audio gear?

No, it's an HyperX Cloud Alpha not wireless.
I'm using all the gear and components as before, when I was playing the game.

Since you're on a fresh Windows 11 install, I'll post my standard set of Windows 11 fixes here because a) it won't hurt and b) you might have to more than one of these anyway. But before that, please note that you cannot use Bluetooth headset to play games that require use of the microphone. If your headset supports some kind of proprietary WiFi based connection, it may work but plain Bluetooth is no go.

Do these in the order below until the game starts or you reach end of the list. If Windows says a packages is already installed, just skip it and continue with the next step. Pay special attention to step #5 because it includes running two installers before it's complete.
  1. Run launcher as administrator.
  2. Make sure your antivirus is not blocking prbf2.exe, prlauncher.exe, or the folder where they are installed in, or your %LOCALAPPDATA%\Project Reality folder.
  3. Download and install .NET Framework 4.7.2 Runtime.
  4. Download and install Visual C++ Redistributable.
  5. Download DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010), run it and give it a temporary folder for extracting files. Then go to that folder and run DXSETUP.exe.
  6. Download d3dx9_43.dll and copy it into your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder, overwriting the file that might already be there.
  7. If your computer has both integrated and discrete GPUs, open Start -> Settings -> System -> Display -> Graphics. Then add desktop app prbf2.exe and set it to high performance with your discrete GPU.
  8. Disable ASLR by opening Start -> Settings -> Privacy & security -> Windows Security -> Open Windows Security. Then open App & browser control -> Exploit protection settings -> Program settings tab. Add prbf2.exe and press Edit, then override and turn off Mandatory ASLR and Bottom-up ASLR.

I've done all those before too, for some reason it doesn't work, it still can't find the "d3dx9_43.dll" file.
But thanks anyway.

That error basically means that DX9 is either missing or broken (steps #5 and #6 in my previous message).

If you have 7-Zip installed, or any app that can produce SHA-256 checksum, go and see what's the checksum of your C:\Windows\SysWOW64\D3DX9_43.dll file. It should be "0b28546be22c71834501f7d7185ede5d79742457331c7ee09efc14490dd64f5f".

Right click the file -> 7-Zip -> CRC SHA -> SHA-256
