PRMumble disconnected - multiple problems

Post by Destrouyer05 »

Hello everyone, I'm new here so I hope this is the correct place to post for my issue. I've been struggling to play this game since I downloaded it about a week ago, because of various issues concerning the voicechat/PRMumble feature.

Things went something like this: when I tried to enter my first game, even though I shouted at the mic, I couldn't be heard by anyone, so of course I was kicked out since it's compulsory to have the mic on. So I spent the next couple hours trying to fix my input settings both in PC and game launcher, until it was fixed and the correct device was connected. Yet another problem had been there all the time: PRMumble wasn't launching, as if the app weren't installed. So I completely reinstalled the game and seemingly this was fixed because now the app was there (though it didn't physically appear as to be launched). However I was once again greeted with bad news:

(Screenshot1 which I can't attach because "the board attachment quota has been reached.")

the PRMumble application showed, in loop, the text "Connection to server failed: Proxy Server not found" and "Reconnecting". Since I'm deeply interested in trying out the game I searched for a long time in this forum, on reddit, even on youtube, and somewhere I read that I had to set up "direct connection" (if I'm not mistaken) in the PRMumble settings. Which I did, and things seemed to work fine since in the log I would read: "connected to Project Reality:BF2"

(Screenshot2 which I can't attach because "the board attachment quota has been reached.")

But still the voice chat did not work. In-game I still kept seeing this icon in the bottom right of the Hud, which the PR Manual refers to as "PRMumble disconnected".

(Screenshot3 which I can't attach because "the board attachment quota has been reached.")

I have kind of lost hope for a solution, I've really searched everywhere and even asked in a pre-existing Topic in this forum, yet nothing seems to work for me. I tried checking my drivers, checking game files, using another version of Mumble, disabling proxy connection and enabling direct ones (as mentioned earlier), excetera.
So yeah, I hope you all can help me, and I thank you in advance for your support.

PS: hope my english was readable, haven't had a proper conversation in a long time

Attachments are disabled because we our resources are too thin to host tons of user's pictures. That's unfortunate but at least you can play for free.

About Mumble problems then. Don't install another Mumble version. It can mess up things badly. Mumble is so tightly integrated into PR that you must use the version that comes with PR default install.

Mumble in PR is fully automatic. It starts when you join public PR server and quits when you disconnect. You must not try to start it by yourself. If it doesn't start automatically, open task manager and make sure you don't have another prmumble.exe process running. If there is more than one, kill them all. It's perfectly safe to kill prmumble.exe at any time from the icon next to your task bar clock or task manager. PR will launch new one automatically if needed.

Another rare yet possible reason for Mumble not starting is that you have installed PR on a USB stick or other drive that is formatted with exFAT or FAT32. PR must be installed on a drive that is formatted with NTFS.

Normally you should not change any settings in Mumble, except for input and output devices. Even key binds must be set in PR launcher options. At this point I suggest deleting your %APPDATA%\Project Reality folder to reset all Mumble settings to defaults. Then go to launcher -> Options -> PR Mumble tab and launch Mumble from there. Then run Audio Wizard from Mumble's Configure menu. On the first pages of the wizard, you should hear male voice speaking "This is an example of Speex, an audio compression codec...", on later pages you should see volume meter react to your microphone. When you are done, quit Mumble before trying to do anything else in the launcher.

If Mumble starts but doesn't connect, it's very likely a network issue. Check your firewall and/or anti-virus and make sure they are not blocking Mumble. After that try to use different DNS servers, like Google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, or a VPN. If VPN is the only thing that works, then it is probably time to talk to your ISP (or government).

If Mumble starts and connects but you suddenly cannot hear anything, or if you hear everybody on the server, then you are probably using Bluetooth headset. Unfortunately, you can't use a Bluetooth headset when playing games that require the use of a microphone. This isn't only a Project Reality limitation, but applies to all gaming, or consuming media in general. Use a wired headset for gaming.

Hello, I didn't know about the disabled attachments so thanks for letting me know.
Anyway, no I do not use bluetooth headphones, so that shouldn't be the problem. Regarding the drive format, I checked the info on my external drive and it should already be formatted with NTFS, so that shouldn't be the issue. I will try everything else you said though, and I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you for your thorough response.

that sounds super frustrating! Welcome to the forum, though—great to see your enthusiasm for Project Reality. Since you’re still seeing the “PRMumble disconnected” icon, have you checked if your router’s firewall or any VPN software might be interfering with Mumble’s connection? Sometimes specific ports need to be opened for Mumble to work smoothly. Also, are you able to test with a different internet connection, like a mobile hotspot, to rule out network issues? Looking forward to hearing how your troubleshooting goes!
