Video: Annoying scout helo

Post by mrbeers »

My squad and I were taking a shortcut in Al Kufrah Oilfield when we came across a MEC scout helo. We wasted a good 10 minutes or so shooting at it until one of our AT guys got a hit.

They are MUCH more susceptible to small arms fire in 0606. Not to mention there is a lot less ghey "magical pile o' never ending ammo".

We wouldn't have had to do that if our AT guys didn't waste a thousand rockets.

I did that tonght with the MEC Light AT. Stupid Little bird had a H-AT bugger sitting on the bench. He'd level out and stop moving when the guy was ready to shoot, I took a pot shot at him when he was in hover and he died. The guy was about 300-400 meters up

I was in that squad! Stupid thing just wouldn´t die. :D I think I might have been the squad leader for part of it, I´m sorry for my poor perfomance, I haven´t been squad leader many times before. I hate it when the squad leader disconnects and you are left trying to lead the squad.

that was an annoying round, but that was very intense. I was the guy in the Light AT that had a really har time hitting it.

Its impossible to hit somethng with the ironsight that the USMC L-AT has since you have to lead a target and the sight ristricts the view.

this video was about 5 minutes into us shooting at the thing. We had easily spent at least 2000 rounds trying to take out this ONE helicopter.

in 607 the light helicopters are much easier to take out with small arms

That wasn't me you hit with the L-AT, but I was doing the same thing yesterday on the River Qwai against the PLA. Got two shots onto a ChiCom tank, and then promply got hit by small arms fire and bled out on the way back to base. Second time around, got a shot onto an APC, came around for the second shot and missed but caused splash damage on an infantryman standing next to it. The PLA weren't very happy, and were cursing both myself and the pilot fairly heavily.

Anyone got any thoughts on using heavy kits from the Littlebird? (I've *ahem*, once used the AA rifleman kit from the side of a LB). I know it's a nasty tactic but is it an unrealistic one? I can't see why it wouldn't be possible to launch a small shoulder-launched missile from the side of a chopper, assuming the missile's owner was strapped into the bird, and aimed the exhaust away from the cabin. In terms of recoil, it's surely no worse than the effect of launching a small rocket mounted externally?

(Edit: I'd like to add that I've made use of a LB like this only three or four times!)

I believe it is bad form. Essentially, the scout becomes a gunship if you have two heavy ATs on the side. Scout ships do not hunt down amour, they find amour and report it up the chain of command.

If I was a server admin, I would get rid of the scout chopper when a amour heavy map comes up. I would get rid of the amour on a map like Quai and leave the scouts.

Of course, I could just warn and if need be ban those who do such a thing, and keep the vehicle layouts as is.
