(thanks Vikingo i "borrowed" your img hope you dont mind )
Another setup i found was similar to vikingo's explanation, i think fuzzhead was our SL at the time, with a commander who had half a brain this worked very well...,
At round start the APC that spawns at VCP is moved to one of 2 positions shown on the img. Someone mans a landy and moves it as shown.
When the Commander arrives he builds a command bunker as shown and deploys razor wire in the entrances, so any pesky insurgents or w/e have to go wide to get inside thus making them susceptible to revealing their position.
The Medic in the squad (which at the time was me , thanks to fuzzhead for this class idea) uses the command bunker as a mini "infirmary" throwing bandages inside and letting all squad members to run inside if they get injured. The Bunker constantly resupplies the medic with bandages, keeping 3 on the ground at all times.
The positions of the landy and the APC's are optional and can be switched i suppose. I had a round the other day where i manned the APC at the south east ramp as illustrated and i went 48-0 Kills that round!.
I know this setup kinda leaves the main round through NVCP open but if you have good squad members who are alert then they spot anything thats coming in more than enough time to neutralise it.

SAS tactic in Basrah
Ok i hyave done this maybe 20 times on Al Basrah and works everytime. OK first get about 5 guys in ur squad and move to a area northwest or west of mosque. Once u lay a RP down. Move to the mosque and take any kits that are there. Once u get them run to the roofs around it. They will come for there nice kits but 1 problem they arent there. Once u open up move. And if u are being fired upon move back. Maybe across the street. Get on the roofs agian. So this time they come after uand they are in a no mans land. Easy kills. They may start to cry about u taking there kits but hey. Also move south to the main crossroads just southwest. Now so u all know in the mosque the following kits are there.
P.S. Iam sorry if the SAS is a clan or something. I would of used SOE but it is a clan. The name is nothing to do with the SAS clan if there is any.
KITS
1-PKM
2-RPGS
1-Mosin
1-SVD
1-SA-7
Ok move the PKM and both RPGS to the south west to stop jihaders! Then u have a SA-7 and a SVD cover the northwestern. then the SL should have the mosin and will cover the middle. They cant use Jihads from south moving north. This will make them go offroading in them which damage them badly. Remember this only works as British.1-PKM
2-RPGS
1-Mosin
1-SVD
1-SA-7

Merlin
I have been flying the merlin on basrah since beta. and throughout that time i have found 7 good LZs this will probably get me shot down more but who cares.
RED OUTLINE: LZ, land lengthwise almost like landing a jet)
GREEN: water drop zones, these are the two spots i hover and let people drop out
HARD: these are really convenient for the grunts, they receive almost instant cover as soon as they land, however streetlights and close buildings restrict these landings to experienced pilots only, especially when under small arms and RPG fire.
all of these LZs are great because they are usually near a cache or strategic point.
How to avoid death

- If someone wants to "gun" your merlin tell them that they're more useful on the ground. the merlin is huge and if you're going to go slow over a circler pattern just so some dude can snipe in the air, chances are you are going to be burning pile of aluminum very shortly.
- don't land with the ramp down, chances are you will flip over as soon as you land on anything short of a road.
- if you see a dirtbike or car anywhere near the LZ DO NOT LAND being killed by a carbomb in a helicopter is really embarrassing
- PRATICE if you can't keep a merlin in the air for more than 30 minutes you should not be flying.
How to avoid death
- learn how to fly, this is the #1 rule, flight endurance is far more important than skill. if you can survive, then you are a good pilot.
- if you get shot at, i don't care if it's a pistol round GO BACK TO BASE this will save you more times then you can count.
- Don't fly over the mosque, you should already know this
- Technicals are your worst enemy they will kill you much faster than any RPG, if you see a white truck, turn around
- land in good LZs good examples are roads or the fields (fields are great) avoid landing between streetlights or buildings if you are anything less then perfect.
- whenever you play insurgents always try to kill the merlin, this is great practice for avoiding death by enemy fire.

one time
one round
one merlin
we enter to a merlin.. and the SL tell t othe team.. "we have to attack the mosque"
i dont known why.. he say "the commander tells me that"
we was on the way for our target, the mosque, and i hear bang bang.. from light weapons..
the pilot keep on the way
and finally, we landed on the mosque and we killed too much bad guyslike a real SF team
the merlin have light damage and we lost 2 guys on the attack
the rebels lose 10 guys and 2 white trucks or cars
nice idea!!!!

Ok here is by far the best airsurpport u can ever have in Al Basrah. Get the merlin and have back gate open so 2 SAW gunners can shoot out it. Then Have medic, engi, and a H-AT guy also. Fly over the city and just put rounds all over. U will get a high score and u will kill alot of them. And if the commander is doing his job just by giving markers he wants u to do runs. He helps the team alot becauset he H-At can kill caches.

Snipers! Use the snipers! Basrah is possibly the best map to use the sniper kit on. Both defensively (positioned in/around the VCP, looking into the city and desert, taking out whoever tries to have a VCP party) and aggressively (going with a squad, getting onto rooftops, covering squads as they search for weapon caches and eliminating threats).
More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.
