Enemy infantry ID

Post by LordSquiffy »

I've just come off Kwai River playing for the PLA. I was camping the small fort at the riverbed (on orders of course) and a 4x4 came barrelling towards me through the river. I aimed and waited for friendly tags to appear above the occupants heads but nothing so I let rip and killed all onboard.

My question. I was lucky this time, but the other day I loosed off a really long shot and hit a friendly as no tag appeared above him. Is the "friendly tag" a bit haphazard or am I missing something.

Cheers.

Waiting for tags to appear is not the best option in the long run, you have to learn to see the differences between the factions. Q-spotting is also advised when un-certain alltough it doesnt allways work over distance.
Like on 7 Gates, China has no vehicles (until bunkers been around long enough) so cars are free game!
Anyhow, it doesnt take that much playing being able to seperate the Landrover from the Nanjing.

what bjoffe said, get familiar with the maps and the vehicles on them! Not sure if its new to you but cars, tanks, ect are team locked. Also check your map if your unsure about engageing targets!

Thanks for the advice chaps. Having played vanilla for a while its always been obvious who's who. I can see that Q spotting's even more important here.

I agree with LordSquiffy, sometimes it takes awhile for the tag to appear, waiting for it can result in a death...yours, learning the factions, and which one you are at that moment, is the best route. My main issue for stupidity is forgeting which side I'm on at the moment...Dee De Dee

As others have posted, learning to identify the difference between the various vehicles is a priority. I think the delay of tags at distance is also a little more realistic, because in real life there are no tags even up close. You need to learn uniform identification as well as vehicle ID. At 300m+, it's hard to tell the difference between a soldier on your team and an enemy, unless using optics. The delay represents the time it would take the average person to focus in and clarify who they are pointing at.

Using the Q-spot does help. Even if they are far range, you can usually look on your GPS and see if the ? is next to a blue dot. If so, it's probably a friendly. If there are no blue dots in that general area, light em up. In the first Gulf War, I've seen Apaches blast a Bradlies due to accidental FF from not identifying their target fully first. Just like in real life, it does happen. One more reason to think about how and where you died by FF, and to have common sense with forgiving the TK.

Regarding the use of vehicles, I was unaware that dropped vehicles were not locked. I feel that's something that needs to be fixed, as it sounds more like an exploit to me. Again, check your GPS for markers, I'm not sure if a dropped and confiscated vehicle will still show as blue or not. When in doubt, hold fire. Or just watch for green tracers.

Nah, you just have to jump into the airdropped vehicle and it gets teamlocked. If you leave it there, it deserves to be nicked by the enemy IMO.
