Today ( 5.20.08 ), I was playing on PR under the name USAF_LTNobumoto. We played on a map with thousands of trees, and I decided to take command for the first time... I failed, so, a tank ended up coming into our base, and I kept saying to myself "where the fuck is that tank?" and then I noticed where it was, it but each time I noticed it, I ended up dying, either as a result of a shell, or machine gun. So, at the point, a few more tanks came in (from what I heard), and I was in the ATC tower, the other guys who came in found me, shot me, and I died. Then they took our base, and we lost.
The end.
Edit: Oh, and I built a firebase on the driveway to exit the base. With barbwire, and sandbags of course. Oh, and three AA guns.
This is what usually happens on any first-time commander's run.

My first time was more like "squads 3,4,5,6 and 7.....where the heck you going?!!"
"Commander could we get another squad on our position?"
"Trying, but squad 5 is babbling Russian at me!"

Ha, I never really batch at the squads, they usually batch at me, for either soloing the game, or some other reason, but then, I realized, "this shit is real! I can't roll solo today, or I'll get shot at, like I did in Iraq.. even though I was in a plane."

I would find myself lucky if the squads even respond.

Well, all my squads stated "roger", and came to the location, but an air strike just wasn't enough.

First Commander Experiance:
Wow, this is really easy, they're all following orders and we're starting to win. Twenty Minutes Later, "NO, Squad 6, ATTACK THIS POSITION, I've got more than enough people covering that position. You two squads, merge up with another squad, one man rifleman squads are useless to me! Squad 6, get your tank into position, squad 3 needs the armor support! Tank Squads, what are you doing? You're done repairing, get on the marker! Squad two, there's nothing up there, move to the marker. All squads, listen up and follow orders, we can win this but you need to listen to me! Oh for christs sake!" Commander Resigns.

I remember my first time as Commander, it was basicly 1 Squad helping me lead everyone
Rico11b: Better than that just take the body out of the game all together, and we'll have floating heads in game.

first time CO i luckily had one of my squads being WAC,
basically everyone listened, tanks went where i sent them the right squads attacked and defended, was on al kufrah .6,
i stuck close to the WAC squad as i was on ts with some of them so easy to communicate etc and set up one deadly fire support group on the ridge line

Last night on T&T server last round I played (Qwai River) we had at least two firebases planted on the map, and never built! The teams were stacked against us, we went through 3 commanders I think were just playing with the controls. I can't recall where our command post was made but our armour could never find it to rearm/repair off. Team messages on what the enemy was doing and how to stop them were not listened too.
Eventually the tickets ran out. The enemy had twice taken our main base but got pushed out each time. The enemy were so poor the kill/death ratio on their side was laughable. I was taunting the enemy chopper pilots in chat, The enemy were getting hysterical about SF attacking their base. sometimes we had 7 troops to the enemies 14. We were lucky if we'd see an enemy all round, we had to sit on cp's and wait for them to come to us and all the time I couldn't figure out what the commander wanted us to do, apart from attempt to build firebases in the enemies path.

To me, every command feels like my first command - a one-way scenic vacation to the seventh circle of Hell.
I'm pretty decent at RTS games and strategy in general, but that's only when my pieces/units are but plastic on a board or pixels on a screen. When I have to bring up to 30 units together, each with their own ego, BAC percentage, or intelligence (or lack thereof), things get ugly.

You´re 100% right in that statement.gclark03 wrote:To me, every command feels like my first command - a one-way scenic vacation to the seventh circle of Hell.
