Al Basrah -- how to use IED?
Hey all.
What is a good strategy for using IEDs on al basrah, especially at the start of the round. Is there a certain road that is heavily used by the brits? I put IEDs in places but it seems no vehicles ever cross so I just forget it.
Thanks!

I notice at start ot round they go to the bridge to then end of map or the one in the middle, and i belive there is no 10 sec waiting time for the IED to activate. There is also a land bridge by the large brigde to the right. If u put a IED on there its really hard to see.

what has worked very well for me, is at the start of the round to use a car and go up north to the vcp, and lay a pair of IEDs behind the barricades in the north entrance of the vcp {so they cant be seen} i spread them out pretty well so it maximizes my chance of a hit, then i wait at the little house that is just northwest of the vcp {right by the water} because it gives a perfect place to watch the vcp entrance. ive made numerous kills this way.

I use the main road in the city and the road down from VCP...Hide IEDs in rocks or put them on lamp posts facing road...

Get a mate to ride on one of them dirt bikes, take the backseat and tada! You made yourself a mobile IED miner. Just drive past enemy troops, drop the IED and blow it up (IED have no arming time iirc). The bike is so damn fast, unless you're driving dead-on towards a tank, you will most likely be rather killed by a street lamp.

and remember, put them on a lamp post high as possible facing in on either side of road. real deadly.

You forgot the area right near the road of vcp, on the side of the bridge closest to the air port theres many rocks there you can hide IED's under, Ive set up there quite a few times and have gotten plenty of rovers and command trucks (one time it was a full command truck lol)

Eh it's not that hard if insurgents have some brains...blow up all the northern bridges to restrict Brit vehicle crossings to only the water crossings. Get 1 IED insurgent to cover the far right crossing and 1 IED insurgent to cover the western one (before it splits into the 2 secondary crossings). Monitor those 2 crossings and BOOMASAURUSREXX any suckers that cross (they will cross eventually since they'll have no choice if they want to use vehicles). You can essentially clamp down the Brits and make them reconsider their career choice with skilled & coordinated tactics.

Detonating 2 IEDs on the back side of the CR2 sets it on fire or if it took damage, it explodes.Spinkyone wrote:Two IED's will NOT take out a Challenger (unless they are used effectively on bridges, always a laugh ) Always partner with an RPG guy or someone with molatov's before you think about taking that tank out.

gotta love using the Civilians as bait to lure the vehicles to the IED's also, that works all the time.

The eastern land bridge has a few plants in it's path which if you drop IEDs on the leaves, it sticks to it. At the beginning of the round if you can get to it before the first few waves of vehicles go by you can get a lot of easy kills.

How many IEDs can you lay at a time before they start to disappear?

Re: Al Basrah -- how to use IED?
You can place 10 IEDs.
At the start of Al Basrah, I placed an IED on one of those little bridges in the middle of the map. An APC crossed it, but I timed the explosion wrong so it did not fell down in the river. Enough damage was done however to have it destroyed by a LAT. Then we saw a tank driving S on the main road, checked the map and saw Big Red driving N on the main road. I started shooting with my rifle to distract it. Luckily the pings on their armour got noticed so they shot at me while Big Red got close enough to destroy the tank.
All of this happened in the first couple of minutes. Best starting point of a insurgent game!

Re: Al Basrah -- how to use IED?
IMO, the best place for IED is the bridge before VCP. I think it was the most satisfying moment of my whole PR history to blow the bridge so a tank fell into the river. And if some poor brit tries to rescue himself and bail out of the tank, I just shoot him in the face. They will be so shocked and surprised because of the IED that they wont see you or your rifle
Always a joy to destroy a valuable asset, that's why I usually go for the tanks with my bridge IED.

Re: Al Basrah -- how to use IED?
IED's require patience. Many (if not most) players want as many kills as fast as possible
because for all the talk of "it's not about points" - people still do care. I spend a long time
waiting and the kills are even more satisfying then...
The bridge between the main base and the smaller Brit outpost is a great spot to wait.
The North end of the road at the city entrance near Mosque works well.
Remember that you can put the IED's into rocks (i.e. conceal them) and this means
the enemy will just hammer their way down the road in whatever vehicle
because they can't see anything to worry about.
Sometimes it's better not to blast a vehicle on it's way*back* to base. If you wait for it
to return to the battlefield it will likely be be a higher value target (i.e. more soldiers, assets).
