Post by Cpt.Danielsen »

Thanks for the tips guys :)

I will now start to inform the SL`s on the mic volume if i dont hear too good, and tweak with my own settings before i do so :)

I will continue to practice and be better at what i`m doing :)

Miscommunication is the fault in your case. The SL thought you were lone-wolfing, but instead you did your best to stick with the squad and accidently spawned at the wrong location.

If you cannot hear your SL it is best to keep saying that you cannot hear him. Make sure that you all do a volume check. If the other SMs can hear him then you should increase your sound settings. If everybody has the same problem, then the SL should do a mic boost.

(At first I feared that you might be talking about me since I discovered recently that I really need the mic boost to be loud enough ingame without shouting in real life. I also kicked a few SMs without warning as they drove off with a truck into a combat zone without saying anything or taking a helicopter in a squad named INF.)

Yep keep telling your squadleader you cant hear him. Or any other squadmember for that matter.

Once I got internet back I will be out there squadleading again. If you see a squad: Cinf Tact. thats me. Im not saying im the best out there but I got a lot patience and I aint afraid of teaching new guys around.

Just saying that theres some good ones out there! :)

If you can't hear your SL its going to make your whole squad job near impossible. Most good SL will give you a warning before kicking if you been working as a team. Sounds like your not doing too bad. If you can't hear someone then ask for a COMM's check.

The other day I end up nearly screaming at a squad members trying to get them to do something. With more and more infuriation, only to realise my mic wasn't broadcasting.

Comm's Check helps everyone

welcome to the forums, As SL I appreciate acknowledgments a 'roger that' 'copy that' or 'I love you Rudd' goes a long way

SLs should never kick without a reason, I'd only ever kick a voip using squadmember if a clanmember was bugging me on TS to let him in instead- and when I do that the member choice is based on what kits are being used and how long that person has been in the squad.

here's a tip for people with quiet voip- unfortunately it mixes badly with people who have very good voip- Go to your audio options, Turn DOWN the effects volume, and make sure Voip is on Maximum receive volume. Tweaking this a little can ensure that you hear even the crappiest mic - then turn UP ur system volume

I find some squadleaders a little like facist dictators, were by they kick pubbers over someone who is in a clan. Half the time ive never even heard of the clan and just because they havent got tags they get kicked...

I only ever kick for infractions, as in spamming voips, spamming chat or generally being a tool. Not if they are new to the game or whatever, pubbers are generally really good players in the long run, because they are playing tis game off their own back a lot of the time unlike some clan members who think they are l337 and waste assets  ...

Main reason for me to kick people for clan/tournament players is so we get more time to practice together, some of us have limited time to play.

But if I have a members thats been working together as a good squad and we are well into the map I won't make space. Team players in my book deserve to keep their place.

Speaking of which, this happens in EVERY GAME EVER that has a built-in VOIP: people don't tell other people when they can't hear them. I don't really get why. They don't wanna be annoying? They think it's only them who can't hear the other person? If you see the person's VOIP icon light up but you can't hear them, you can assume that their setup is broken, and you should let them know that. If I accidentally unplugged my microphone, I'd want someone to let me know.

As to kicking people, I rarely kick people as SL unless they are doing something exceedingly retarded, like one-manning an APC on the other side of the map or sniping off a building on the other side of the city. Spawning on a wrong spawn is a mistake that sometimes happens, and as annoying as it is, but I don't think squadmembers should be kicked just for incompetence.

I had a squadleader as well who's VOIP icon kept popping up. We just joined a new map and in the previous round he was a really nice squadleader. So after a few tries I told him his mic didnt work and the next time his VOIP Icon popped up we could hear him laugh. He muted himself or some reason and forgot to put it off.

Yeah, guess im too shy to tell the SL..

but i will work on that :) The squad leader will of course not function properly with a squad who dont tell him that they cant hear him :o ops:

Thanks for the answers guys, i will keep working on what i`m doing so i can be a gread squad member :)

youll get used to it. When I first started playing games with voice chat ( medal of honor allied assault on teamspeak with the clan ) I was shy as well. Now in PR ( a game designed for it ) I find it real easy to start talking. Your playing with people with a certain mindset who are all here to talk with the team over VOIP so no one will be thinking: What a weird dude talkin to me over VOIP

I don't think I've ever kicked someone from my squads. I did shoot a squadmember in the face yesterday though. Went like this:
"Rifleman, cover us. The rest, cross the river"

...

"Cross the river guys"

"Now"

"Cross the river NOW"

"Guys, get across that river NOW or I start shooting you in the face"

*shoots squadmember in the face, gets punished for a teamkill*

"Move across that GOD DAMNED river NOW"

*squad moves across river*

"THANK you"

I had occasional problems with hearing certain people over VOIP clearly. Listening through headphones instead of the speakers seems to help tremendously.
I love how PR encourages VOIP usage. When I first started playing, I was shy as well and didn't dare to speak up. Now I always say hi when entering a new squad and I'm always thrilled to hear other people reply (which is about 75% of the time, and this number seems to be improving steadily).

Also, for the people without a mic: GET ONE! You don't know what you're missing out on. Make sure you don't already have one without realising it before spending money on one. For instance, I use my webcam's built in microphone, which seems to work very well.

It cant be stressed enuf just how important good comms are to a successful squad.

Therefore it should be the SLs responsibility to talk to new members, get them talking and ensure every1 can hear you perfectly.

Read fuzzheads guides on SLing and communications as they are excellent

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f143-s ... 0-8-a.html

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f143-s ... owder.html

If we can get 75% of the PR community using these guides as law we would be having some incredible games, day in day out.

make sure you use a headset if you do that lads, cuz theres nothing like hearing feedback from a JDAM

also its funny when the player's cat/family/etc make noise when he's trying to talk to the squad :D

I remember when I used to play other games before PR using TeamSpeak, there was this guy that every time he spoke, no one could hear him but everyone could hear his computer fans
We found out later on that he was using a desktop mic instead of a headset.
