[AAR] Squad leader problems
I've been playing the latest version of PR for just over a week now and the mist of confusion is starting to fade--just a bit that is. The game is wonderful in its complexity but I think it'll be a long time before I'm on the ball with everything. Now here's the thing...
Last night I joined a squad and immediately I noticed the SL was very in your face:
Follow the f**king orders now1
F**king move. Too slow!
I accepted this as the guy getting into role and wanting to make sure the squad was cohesive. I say this because mixed in with the abusive tone/comments were some praise comments and thank yous. The problem was that the insulting comments were far more common--to the squad as a whole not just me. Eventually, I couldn't stand it anymore and I felt compelled to leave before I said what I thought of him or blew his brains out. Now here's the real shame of it. As I said, I'm a new player and so having an experienced SL is just what I need. This bloke was excellent both from a game knowledge and startegic point of view but it was like working with the school bully and an evil teacher at the same time. So I have a plea:
If you're an SL give us new lads a chance to learn without treating us like shoe scrapings. A good leader is appreciated by his men not despised.

When you join a squad you should tell that you're a rookie. Good SL's will help you!

Yeah, you never know what kind of person is leading the squad which you plan to join. Anyway, he maybe watched too much Full Metal Jacket or is just normally an idiot or came straight from BF2. Just change squad, theres plenty of them out there ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: Squad leader problems
I never think someone I dont know telling me to move the F*CK up is fun for a game. So when this happens I just leave.
Now when its partially my fault (like I crashed a hummer in a truck a few times in a row by driving like a drunk man. Hey.... It was just one of those games) and a guy gets mad at me I stick around. I do tell him that it was an accident and that theres no reason to be mad and start screaming! Its still a game![Surprised :o](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)
I always teach new people the ropes of PR! Its our chance to turn a potentional noob/'nilla player in a good tactical like minded gamer!

Re: Squad leader problems
I am serving in the Finnish Defence Forces as a squad leader at the moment. To be exact antitank squad. Hunting armors with mines and heavy at-weapons really is something normal rifleman can't experience. They weight like hell and you should still operate like normal grunt. It really takes humor and I have seen some fellow SL's to lose themselves when pressure rises.
In computer game when you can sit on nice comfy chair and drink beer I just can't understand how anyone can go apeshit like I have seen few do. These guys usually have a really bad day or they have a nature of getting wild. I don't think it is that much of the "they came from 'nilla" -thing
Just be polite and ask them to shut up or leave the squad.

If you refer to my came from nilla line I meant new guys. Here we have a few unmolded player that we can mold in to tactical player instead of headless chickens and we scold at them instead of teach them the basics of PR.
Thats what I meant
Thats what I meant

Re: Squad leader problems
My main problem with squads is when i'm the leader not often do i get people following me or willing to stay on foot, which really annoying because my squad in insurgency always gets the most action and destroyed caches. over the weekend i had 3 huge firefights when US my squad got over 35 kills in each one as well as a cache. But these great moments only happen when my squad members follow orders. and i hate how since i don't have a mic a lot of people decide not to listen.

you really need a mic if you want to lead effectively. i dont mind squadmembers not having a mic (as long as they communicate and listen), but i would find it damn near impossible to get anything done as an SL without a mic. you can get a cheap mic for like $12. i bought mine for that much in 1993 and it still works like a champ.JohnTheRipper wrote:My main problem with squads is when i'm the leader not often do i get people following me or willing to stay on foot, which really annoying because my squad in insurgency always gets the most action and destroyed caches. over the weekend i had 3 huge firefights when US my squad got over 35 kills in each one as well as a cache. there's no entertainment out there as cheap as PR! the $12 for the mic will increase your enjoyment 10-fold. skip a day of drinking and get one!JohnTheRipper wrote:well thats what the weeks ends for me are for. sadly i have only like 20-30 bucks i can pull out because it's a saving account which i set a limit i can't go under, and some money i need for buy a pizza and drink next friday. bowling i can't believe it's a class it school.
