You probably also ignored/didn't notice air-control squad members (of the pilot) telling you to provide grid coordinates.
While it's true many pilots have no idea what they're doing, those ones almost never survive 5 minutes in the air, so in this case I'm kinda doubting that legitimacy. THIS is what the pilot should be doing. THIS is what you as a Squad leader should be doing. If either of you miss any steps, it puts a huge risk on the pilot, to the extent that in this case they may have even asked for specific coordinates, but decided not to risk a 20-minute-10-ticket asset on an unspecified target.
