Not really. Been busy with the Russians. They hooked me first, so they have first priority. ;)

The pistol grip won't be seen by the players, so I don't think I'll actually bother. It's just a waste of polies if it won't be seen. And it's already at about 6000 tris.

Pretty much, yeah. Some more details that need to be sorted first.

i just realized, that there is a small gap between the bipod and the little stabilizing sticks, not sure if that should be there, but it should not be hard to fix

i dunno if this is right or not, but doesnt the hk417/416 have rails? right now it just looks like a flat peice you would slide on the front grip. Anyways, you probably already know that :P

indeed it does, but it would simply take up too many polygons. I think KP made the right choice here by putting these handguards on, the other real alternative I would have considered was normal mapping the rails onto a box or semi-modeled rail, which wouldnt have looked all that convinsing imo.

ok, i'm just wondering if it could just be textured in, but you Weapon Smugglers.. i mean....artists know what you're doing. Us little people should stay outta the way :P

That should be there. ;) The bipod legs are attached to a cylinder so that they can swivel independently of the weapon. That cylinder is again attached to the mount itself.

It does have rails, yes. But I've covered them up, like most people seem to be doing with the rails on the M16 and M4 in the field (so it's based on reality, see?). It makes the rifle more comfortable to hold, prevents dirt from getting into the rails and - in the case of 3D models - lowers the triangle count considerably. It's already pretty high, and I didn't want to add more polies if I could avoid it.

As Z said, the rails could possibly be made by normal maps. I don't know too much about this, but as far as I know, it would take quite a bit of work and a very, very good texture artist to be able to pull it off decently. And even if you were able to do it well, it'd still not look as good as modelled rails. Worst-case scenario would be a properly bad-looking front handguard.

So it is a bit of a compromise, but one that I - and the mod leaders - can live with.

And thanks for all the praise! It's what makes all the work worthwhile. :D
