i mean okay, a single file should not be bigger, if you use FAT32, but the installer is already split in 2 parts, and ofcause, the game could not use more than 2gb ram before bf2 1.5 but this patch chanced that

@foolsroad Rhino said somewhere, that he would like to see it changed back

Doubt it, if they have a very realistic scenario Russians vs Chechens currently, it seems out of touch with the PR spirit to go for the extremely unrealistic scenario of Brits vs Chechens.

I´m also interested why there is a filezise limit of 2GB. Is it another one of the downfalls of the BF2 engine, or is Windows the culprit?

In 0.87 yes, in 0.9 we don't know yet.

IIRC IronTaxi and Nickbond are advocates of GB vs militia maps and they're the creators of Fools Road, Dragonfly and Ochamachira.

So unless someone higher up refused, you can expect it to happen.

Beirut and Silent Eagle are apparently Russian maps and presumably at least Kozelsk will stay that way as well. No idea about Iron Ridge.

They might try to distinguish between Chechens and generic ~Georgian militia, but the war scenario in PR already is not as realistic as you imply.

Pretty much all popular installer programs have a 2GB limit on a single file. The installer software we use, Inno Setup, does support more than 2GB sure, however, it requires you to split it up into multiple files (ie, setup.exe, part1.bin, part2.bin, part3.bin), which each file being limited to 2GB. I'm assuming this is because FAT doesn't like files more than 2GB, or, it's a 32bit limitation. One of them anyway I'm sure. But yeah, for web releases, this is bad. If we released on DVD, this would be fine. So the way we do it now is fine, just need to work a little on people understanding exactly what they need :p .

Anywho, this stuff isn't to do with pretty pictures :p . Onto the pretty pictures :D

the point of the so called militia series of maps is, that militia would as well be renamed from the current chechen name, if the maps would be given back to the GB

There's a couple of maps I like that are being removed, but I'm keeping an open mind. The new maps have the potential to be fantastic.

I like the soft-light effect on the pictures, it adds a certain depth and goes well with the woodland, dusky surroundings as well as the middle eastern maps where it's not as harsh as bloom would be. Imo it doesn't go so well with the desert maps, they seem too saturated. I've always found the ground texture on kashan desert is a bit unsightly (In comparison the dunes on ejod desert looked very smooth and sandy).

I was wondering if there was any possibility of exporting the bf2 maps layout to an unbiased renderer for a photo realistic look to the maps. Although it would be a very time consuming job for not much gain to visuals.

I guess it can't be far off, if they've got all of the maps to a finalised enough stage to take and edit screenshots from them /wishful thinking :D

I imagine many people don't mind about the filesize, but there's always the players who don't have access to a fast internet and they shouldn't just be cast aside. On this subject, with PR 0.9 including a single-player. And with casual players who may not have the time for a huge download, how plausible would it be to distribute a DVD with PR on? I understand you can't sell the mod because it's illegal, but can you request money to cover the costs of the distribution if it's something people would be interested in?

I just saying that I believe that Operation Ghost Train is a fairly popluar map and that I think there are other maps more suiting to be removed.

:P
