the australian faction was mainly fueld by R-DEV Tonnie and there were exciting things happening, however his RL became rather hectic and he had to drop modding so that he could get on with it (I think he opened a store of some kind)

I remember some time ago how I was hyped about conventional African faction,
still feels sour when thinking how they haven't managed to be in final game...
I am thankful for unconventional ARF for sure, but seems it is some fetish of mine
imaging battling modern jet fighters in MiG-21 over jungles and savannas...
I always loved being a underdog...

would be really nice to update the IDF function
CTAR is really old and no inf unit in the IDF use CTAR
except the Paratroopers that use m4 flattop
would be nice to see the MTAR getting into PR
and add some vehicles like the armored thermal Humvee
and PUMA as armored personnel carrier

You know what the answer to that will be...

Better get to work if you want to see it in-game :)

Speaking of the Syrian faction, any chance the AKM will get implemented in the next version or is it still low priority?

I was tempted not to answer this question as it was so poorly asked and without any consideration for the people who have actually put countless of hrs of work into Sangin, with even remotely suggesting that it affects you more than it has us, but here it goes anyways...

As I'm sure your well aware, Project Reality is a volunteer project, none of us get paid to work on this and we work on it in our own free time, on top of other r/l jobs etc as a hobby. Unfortunately this means that not all of us have as much time as we would like to work on PR and that is when things are going smoothly. If for w/e reasons, r/l circumstances change, then we sometimes have to drop w/e we are working and deal with r/l stuff which all of us devs can fully understand and sympathise with each other.

This unfortunately is the current situation with Sangin where r/l circumstances have changed for the mapper (not me if your confused with what my role is with the map...) and he can not currently work on the map or any other PR related projects because of that.

Yes, Sangin, being a massive largely urban map with vast amount of vegetation and detail was a very ambitious project, before you even consider it requiring a whole brand new range of statics which is where I came/come in... I first made the Afghan v2 (lego) statics which where directly interned for Sangin back in 2008 but these had serious problems with performance (since I made these before we understood the concept/importance of draw calls), which wasn't too bad for smallish maps with short VDs but for Sangin which required a 1km VD for it to really work, was far too big an issue and they didn't look very good, or even work that well in terms of gameplay either. As such I started work on the Afghan v3 statics in 2011 and we had really ambitious ideas for them, which I seriously underestimated the amount of work involved in making all the variation we had planned for while also on top keeping them optimized and working well. As such even thou I put in god knows how many hrs into the statics, the project dragged on to a point where they where almost ready for release, even thou I hadn't done 1/4 of what we had originally planned for, the mapper's r/l circumstances had changed to a point where he has no time or energy to work on the map and I myself had become pretty burnt out as well with making 1,000s of unique statics, with ideally still needing to make 1,000s more... As such the map has been hanging in limbo for a few months now and at this point, may never get finished... And even thou I've spent countless hrs of my life working towards this project, I can fully understand this situation and I can fully sympathise with the mapper as this has happened to myself and many other devs on many other occasions....

But in all honesty, the biggest mistake that was made with Sangin, was telling you guys, the public, about it.... There are so many massive, overly ambitious projects that we undertake all the time and many of them never see the light of day... One of these I actually abandoned so I could help out with Sangin, although I'm not going to say what as if I do then you guys will be crying for it, just like you have been for Sangin for years, sapping a lot of energy out of the team to the point where the main mapper behind Sangin never even checks the public forums, and hasn't for years, just because of this and sucked a lot of the fun and energy he had out of making the map and one of the many big reasons why this map has never been released.

This is why with pretty much all our new projects, especially the really big ones, we do not tell you guys above until its in a really good state where we are more or less absolutely sure its going to get finished until we tell you guys about it. I have been working on one such project (on and off) for the past 8 months and if I had told you guys about it when I had first stated working on it you guys would have just winged and cried if it never got released. I'm only even mentioning there is something big I'm working on now as its pretty close to being finished but if something came up in r/l, it could easily block this from being finished any time soon, or at all even.... I could make a list as long as my arm of all the projects that have not been completed due to this kinda thing, some you guys know about but most you guys don't since they where never revealed to you guys which has meant that there has been nothing for you guys to get disappointed about luckily.

I understand that Sangin was something many of you craved about but please don't forget, we do this for free, in our spare time and hopefully one day Sangin may be released be I can't promise you anything. Thanks.

PS. Typing up this reply has taken around 30mins off me working on PR and drained quite a bit of my energy...

Thanks for taking the time to reply Rhino. It's a shame that the things we enjoy most are often the things that we have the least amount of time for (I actually truly enjoy work, but that's besides the point). I remember back before you released the Falklands that you were talking about the Afghan statics and how it made the Falklands project pale in comparison to the time required to create these statics. I think everyone is satisfied with what is currently is in the mod, as there are seriously more assets in PR than any other mod or game that I know of (ArmA and BF1942:FHSW might compete). People take notice of this and that's why PR got Mod of the Year and has continually been Honorable Mod of the Year - they appreciate the work you do.

Side note: How the hell does Rhino have 43,000+ posts...
