This all just seems so impractical.

But they also still use the black and white crosses so It makes sense they'd use a machine-gun that looks like the WW2 weapon :P

/not saying any political stuff here to my oppinion. I cant wait to use this ingame and it looks amazing and terefic
because the design for the weapon works, the MG42 could put 3 rounds into you in the area of a quarter before you felt it, and it will put another 30-40 rounds into you before you hit the ground, the only problem was at the speed it broke parts, so the MG3 is just a slightly slower version. also the cross of which you mentioned was not a nazi symbol so its not something they care about. the cross with the white edges has been the symbol of the Wehrmacht for some time.

Why would the MEC use it? Then what would we do with the HK21?

They already use German designed weapons (G3) so theoretically it makes sense.

The mg3 can also use a heavier bolt to degrease the ROF to 700-800 rpm, so that would be a good compromise for the drum mag, that would mean a long burst of 4s (+ more stability+more accuracy) for the soldier kit version, for vehicles it should be the 1200 rpm variant.

Yeah, and if you miss, you'll be wasting a lot of ammo, so lower ROF is actually better then a higher ROF.

Higher ROF is better for suppressing targets, which is the purpose of a machinegun. A burst from a MG3 will sure as hell be able to pin a whole squad.

the optimal shooting distance (told in the German Army) is 200m for the MG3 up to 700 m then it will become really hard to hit sth

so the MEC AR will have to get a good position on a roof and supports the squad by supressing the enemy squad and keep their heads down so that the MEC sq can attack the enemys from a flank

Lower ROF is better; better control on ammo consumption and gives you a wider area of suppression per round fired.

Not sure how accurate it would be to fire an MG3 from your shoulder, here's a different approach:

Image
^ 'M56 Smart Gun' from the movie Aliens, basically an MG42 with motorbike parts and a stabilizer mount.

heheh awesome movie, and not at all is firing an MG42 standing fictional, german troops on the move did it all the time, the muzzle brake allowed this with its design
