Is the Flak 18 model still in progress or is it dead?

I've just been a little busy with the girlfriend back for winter break, but it is not dead. Sorry, I didn't realize it's been this long already! Time flies!

I'll get back into this soon I swear, haha, but .98 coming out hasn't helped me at all XD

Although the DDay maps are giving me great incentive to get it done quickly now ;)

...Also my girlfriend got me a flak 36/37 model for Christmas so I'm putting that together on the side now too, haha! Very similar to the flak 18 so it is nice having a real life model to work with too, especially for color sceming

Well, I've SLOWLY been making some progress..really slow...

School just started up again this quarter and our first project is making 2 10-20 second animations for our schools new jumbotron for the football stadium...winners get their animations on the screen during games (ill bee sure to post em in 2 weeks!)

So on that note I've been very busy :/

I don't want to sound like a lazyass or anything, but if we want the cannon quickly I could hand it off to someone else to finish up, otherwise I will be getting back to it asap when I can, I'm sorry bout the wait D:

So if anyone wants to pick up where I've left off we can do that, otherwise I should be working on it slowly and hopefully be able to get more progress soon, its just those damn UVs that are taking me a while :P

mmmk, well depending how long it takes me to do my animations for my class (due in a week and a half), I'll use the rest of my free time to finish up UVs

Me too! I am planning on showing it to my 3d teacher tomorrow before/during/after class to get his opinion on things as well.

BTW my workload this quarter includes C and Unix, Algorithms, and my 3d class plus this, haha, if that helps at all why I've been so busy XD

Just wanted a quick update because it's been a while, I've still been busy with school and we just got our first assignment in 3d done, and our second one came right after :P

However I want to thank everyone who has helped me on this forum and anyone else, because we are modeling game assets (more specifically roman buildings), and we are required to UVW unwrap!

Once the modeling is done this should be a breeze from everyone's help, and I actually helped the teacher a lot today since itd been a while since he's used it, so again, many thanks guys ;D

Hey guys, sorry for no update lately, I have made no progress since the last time I have updated (but I have gotten a little better with UVing thanks for projects at school :P )

What I wanted to know which I did not think of until recently are two things:

1) I am using a student version of 3ds max. I know this cannot be used for commercial reasons, but does anyone know if using a model made by a student version in a mod such as PR would violate the user agreement?

2) As I have said before I have been modeling in 3ds max 2012 and 2013, not max 9 because I do not want to spend the money/ if I pirate it and my school finds out I can lose my degree (hence I don't pirate anything just to be safe...). When I had Dr. Pock take a look at it in max 9 (sent it to him and such), everything seemed fine besides the smoothing groups being messed up a bit. I have also heard the UVs will do something similar when made in a newer version of 3ds max.

Assuming I can even use this model (see question 1), would it be best for someone else to do these things in max 9 for me if I am not able to get it? The earliest version of 3ds max I can get is (iirc) 2010 for free from my school, however this is also a student copy (see question 1).

Let me know, I'd hate to see it come to this but I guess is nothing else we could use my model as a reference for someone else who can model it in a non-student version...

Just want to check and see if anyone knows how to answer these questions before I start again on this project when school gets out this quarter.

Thanks guys :)

No money is being made of this at any point so its all fine.

If you have to stick with 2012/13. Make sure when its all uv'd and done, export it as a .fbx (or a .obj with the right settings) and it should open fine in max9 with maybe some broken smoothing groups at most.

You can also export as fbx ascii or obj, and since these are text files, you could just erase any info on it being from a student version. ;-)

Why would he need to... there is no money involved.

Awesome, that's what I thought but it just came to mind last week and I thought I'd check. I asked my 3d instructor and he said doing this for a mod would be pushing it a little but he thought it would be fine. Again, just wanting to make sure nobody gets in trouble, thanks for the quick replies :D

Just in case. But i believe nothing gets recorded in an export anyway.

It does. Those files are watermarked. If you open a student file in a normal version it will give a pop up. At least for other autodesk programs I've used in the past. But yeah, don't worry about the license. It won't cause any problems whether you use normal or student version. Only the actual max version matters.

Sounds good, yea I know about the pop up, for whatever reason using a student made scene on a education licensed 3ds max program makes it pop up but I never care about that haha :P

I mean when you export to a different filetype.
