That is foolish. The pilot decides where exactly to land, he is in control of the bird. He only need to land in a general area.

To retort to your common sense comment, common sense dictates the chopper land in a safe area, because I've seen many squad leaders want to go to a hot zone.

Also, chopper comes in to pick u a squad, lands wrong, switches LZ, hits a wall, damage is too high to take off and they arent going anywhere.
