There is another solution which Nickbond592 showed us the other day. I will ask him to post it here.

Its not so much a connection problem fix more of a connecting to EA server fix

do you get long login times when logging into your account when first launching up PR, BF2 or any other mod?

if you do its due to the fact that its transfering data to the login server regarding the previous servers you've visited. (i think its transfering data it could well be doing something else with the ip's i'm going to give you the whereabouts of)

STEP 1
if you go to My documents >BF2 >Profiles
you should be greeted with a series of folders titled 001 through to how many accounts you have in Bf2

these accounts will be in numerical order in accordance with the list you have on your account log-on screen 001 will be the top account with the last number being the account at bottom of the list.

eg. I have 001, 002, and 003 one for me and my brothers.

STEP 2
open up the folder that corresponds with your account ( if all of the accounts take a while to log-on start with 001 and work through repeating the process)

this folder will contain a series of .con files

STEP 3

right click on the folder titled General.con and select open with

now open this file using word, wordpad, notepad etc.

STEP 4

scroll down till you see a line of writing labled:

GeneralSettings.setServerFilter ""
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "12.180.48.75" 29900 "24/7 Karkand Infantry Only *=V=*" 11
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "70.86.47.124" 29900 "ROXgaming.com Wake 24/7" 2
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "64.182.158.76" 29900 "24/7 Wake =1ST.Recon= Battalion" 10
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "72.36.225.236" 29900 "DC1 24/7 Karkand High Points Ranked" 20
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "72.36.128.35" 29900 "(CzM)* 24/7 Karkand Infantry Only FF = OFF" 3
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "193.93.47.85" 29900 "24/7 Karkand -<{1st-IB}>-" 23
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "85.236.101.49" 17365 "=RS= BF2 Infantry Only" 13
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "193.93.45.78" 29900 "=BBUK= 24/7 Wake Island" 101
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "84.244.171.62" 29900 "EAT this! - Infantry only (Karkand only)" 12
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "84.244.187.43" 29900 "BRUNZ 24/7 WAKE ONLY" 9
GeneralSettings.setHUDTransparency 204

there should be a block of lines identical to this, the larger the block of text the longer your login timer

STEP 5

delete the block of text and ip's leaving only the begining line of text before the IP's

it will look like this :

GeneralSettings.setServerFilter ""
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "
GeneralSettings.setHUDTransparency 204

(don't worry what your hud transparency value is leave it as it is )

now that you've deleted all of the ip's when you login it dosent have to send them all to EA's login server and therefore you have a shorter wait

i had a mammoth wait to login before doing this and now its around 5-8 seconds

THIS METHOD IS COMPLETELY SAFE BUT IF YOU WISH TO MAKE A BACKUP IT WONT HURT :)

thanks for reading
Nick.

yeah re-installing has the same effect as editing the file as when you re-install you delete the file upon un-install, creating a new empty one when installing :-o

pbns.dat

Post by {GD}ODIE3 »

Okay guys, it seem that what is causing "Your connection has been lost" is PB pbns.dat file.

In XP the file is located in \Battlefield2\pb\

In Vista it can *also* be in \Users\YOUR_LOG_IN_NAME\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\BF2\pb

When you remove this file it will be recreated, so you will have to remove it again at some point.

If you are using QTracker you can create a bat file to be used to start up BF2/PR and the file will be removed each time you join a game via QTracker.

You can find the out how to create the bat file and use it here

Is the reason for the connection problem message popping up every 10 mins a flaw in the mod? Cuz am getting it constantly even with all internet drainers off and on different servers, usually everything runs smooth as soon as i join a server, then the lagging keeps getting worse and I get the error message, 2-4 secs of ÜBERlagging, and then everything goes back to normal for 5-10 mins and the lagging starts up again...

If you don't want to go through NickBond's steps, then you can achieve the same effect by going into "favourites" in your multi-player screen and deleting all the servers there...

Oh man, I have a whole topic regarding this problem, under different name though. If that is all that I have to do, I owe you big time Collado...

Will report after evaluation...

EDITED: No luck on five servers... I press ESC when the message pops up, I wait couple of seconds, press ESC again... And guess what! You connection to the server has been lost... I had my hopes up but it seems I`m not meant to play this mod...

Try turning down video settings. I didn't have connection problems afterwards. I have no idea why...

... i was getting lots of connection problems before i cleaned out my PC.. and i mean physically... it was full of dust. I removed a ton of dust from my PC which was causing it to overheat that in turn was causing it to have connection problems. So in my case overheating was causing this.. weird as it sounds as soon as i cleared out the dust the connection problems stopped.

After 15-20 minutes of playing on ANY server i get message "Your connection to server has been lost". I tried to use only one core of Core2Duo, to turn off firewalls, to re-install PR. It doesnt work. But default BF2 (vanilla) works good. Why?? Is it problem only of PR?

P. S. Sorry. I have this problem in vanilla too.

None of the suggestions worked. Reinstall, pb update, pb sleep, etc, etc. Never had this problem with .6 nor any other game.

PR is now unplayable.

Update:
Turning my sound quality to "low" seems to help the problem... I don't see the "connection problem" message anymore but it's still jerky here and there.. not good enough to play reliably.

DEVS, could there be a relation here? Sound code causing connection problem issues? With the increased sound quality in .7, it might explain why I had no problems in .6?

You know surprisingly enough the Esc thing worked for me. How odd.

For me, it happens after i've been in a server for 45 mins. I've timed it several times, and after 45 mins from the time I click "Join Game" I get automatically dropped from the game. I have updated PB, using the lastest patch and I do not use wireless internet. My internet connection is working perfectly, my firewall is not interfering.. I just dont know what the problem is. Regardless of server, even on vanilla BF2, after 45 mins of being on a server, I get dropped =/
