Nope, seeing as this wont come out for a while factions and gameplay might be way different then now. I'm only mapping right now and will deal with all that later.

I'll try to post more pick maybe by the end of next week, but the next patch has me on some other projects plus Korengal fixes for the release that are just important. :-D

I love the idea of Feyzabad...I was there in 2005...But...

It isnt a US base, its a German Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). Also danish and czech paratroppers

I think the map would be better if it where placed more to the east.

You would get the airfield in the west, in the middle the river with the mountain and in the east the city...then it would be like basrah in gameplay and tactics.

The special is that u have to drive into the city to get on the mountain in the middle, because there are only 2 bridges. We cleared a weapon cache on the top of the mountain and one in the barracks in the middle of the city. In the barracks are lots of old russian BMPs, BM-21 and towed howitzers, so it would be a great place for insurgent main base.

We took lots of pics, but i dont have some now here to show u, sorry.

I will try to place a satellite pic with annotations later.

Never said it was US :-P its only what I'm using to test the map. The release dates a bit away so team assigning is not going to happen anytime soon. Plus it takes place in the future. BUt I do know about the current countries there.

Well as far as moving it. Its been worked on too much to change now. Wish I would have know that earlier :-D The biggest reason is at the time its the only sat images I could get off of google earth. To the east and south are very blurry and cant make anything out.

I want to try to help and give u some impressions of feyzabad, maybe it will be a project for future. At the moment i am at the german airforce cadett school, but in march 2009 i will be back in my main job and then i can show u pics of feyzabad including the bridges, barracks etc. etc... i can send u good satellite images also from the city in march 2009 too

No problem with your english, I work with Germans all day :-P . Any help is always appreciated. Its a rarely photographed place, most likely because of OPSEC. Also thank you so much for the diagrams.

A real shame to hear your having problems with the terrain, the idea to make it a very hard map to get around on sounds very interesting.

I've got a couple of questions if you don't mind answering them.
The problems your having with the terrain, is this because of the steep vertical faces of the terrain or because of the scale of the map or a mix of both?

I just trying to think of any BF2, BF2:Armored Fury, BF2:Euro Forces, PR, POE, EoD maps where the same problem has or has not occurred.

Also, are you still actively working on this map, whether it be work-arounds for the terrain problem or continuing with other content, or has the terrain problem pretty much put a holt on everything and your stumped?

BTW making a vid is a great way to show the fans what's going on, thanks for sharing.

And for the Space marines! There gonna have it bad....again for the nth time factions haven't been decided. I for one like playing the OPFOR more then the BLUFOR plus a strong tester team that will let us know whats working and whats not.

Its a mix of both. Smaller maps have the same effect but are not as noticeable. And yes its the verticle faces that do this. Anything higher than 45 degrees seems to happen. Solution is to curve the hills (no straight drops)

I know the a few pages back I answered that but I will again as its gotten buried. Yes the map is still being worked on. Improving everyday. and for the most part those issues are gone or at least very minimum.

And I'll try to post more when I have time, Being a player before becoming a DEV I know how hard it is not understanding some decisions that are made. And this way you get to not only hear why but also see.

Well, the map is in Afganistan ;) Not too hard to guess that the factions wont be Norway vs China....

Maybe they will. Sounds like a great time.


The maps still in a map creation mode which takes a long time compared to factions and vehicle placement. When the time come you will all know. Until then all discussion of factions wont be answered. I'll throw this on the main page as well.
