Chill, please, Prevtzer.
It's indeed about the sights not being accurate.

Re: Ask the [DEV]s a (?) - Part 2
Simple question: Can we expect a fix in the next release (or a release in the near future) for the launcher crash that prevents us from adding the mod to Steam without disabling Steam overlays for all games?

hey,
I am glad that you've registered on our forums, but I need to be honest:
probably not.

there is actually a way to turn it premanently off just for bf2.Dragnerok_X wrote:Simple question: Can we expect a fix in the next release (or a release in the near future) for the launcher crash that prevents us from adding the mod to Steam without disabling Steam overlays for all games?
right click on bf and click on settings (or something like that, i have the german version of steam). then disselect the first box. now you should be able to play with the steam overlay in any game but bf2

Thanks for the welcome and honesty. While it's unfortunate, at least you're being honest (don't get that enough from devs nowadays), plus it's only a minor gripe, as it only prevents me from keeping my games organized in Steam. Really enjoying Project Reality regardless.[R-DEV]K4on wrote:hey,

Thanks for the advice. For BF2, yes that works, but this change doesn't seem to help the PR launcher crash, and of course, because the launcher is a non-Steam game, there is no option to disable the community on it without disabling for all Steam games.CL0WN wrote:there is actually a way to turn it premanently off just for bf2.

Unless I'm missing something?

Simple question, not a simple answer.Dragnerok_X wrote:Simple question: Can we expect a fix in the next release (or a release in the near future) for the launcher crash that prevents us from adding the mod to Steam without disabling Steam overlays for all games?
Firstly, Steam can't handle Non-Steam Games that have a manifest saying "requireAdministrator", as in, applications that require administrator privileges to run. PRLauncher needs this because of some functions it provides (writing to the game directory; most commonly in Program Files, launching BF2 which also requires administrator rights due to it being an old game and only "really" supporting Windows XP where security was much more relaxed, and hooking into the BF2 process memory, which definitely needs administrator rights).
So, there's two things that can get the game to launch. Either making PRLauncher have a manifest saying "asInvoker", which isn't going to happen as lots of things will break, or launching Steam as an admin, which is equally bad and shouldn't be done.
As for the Steam Overlay, that wouldn't work in PR:BF2 anyway. This is because it tries to hook into PRLauncher instead of BF2 (since PRLauncher runs first, then launches BF2, Steam Overlay and Non-Steam Games can't handle child processes). So you end up getting the overlay trying to show in PRLauncher . And you can't just launch BF2 directly which is typically the answer with games that use a launcher, as PRLauncher must be running in the background for everything to work.
That all said, you can get it to work properly if you disable the Steam Overlay, but since that's a global setting and there's no setting for individual Non-Steam Games, that's also not ideal either.
So, long story short, nope, never going to happen, sorry.

Re: Ask the [DEV]s a (?) - Part 2
I thought you can disable the steam overlay by selecting the game in the steam library going to properties and checking off the steam community in-game option, then selecting okay. Or is that a different option?[R-DEV]AncientMan wrote:That all said, you can get it to work properly if you disable the Steam Overlay, but since that's a global setting and there's no setting for individual Non-Steam Games, that's also not ideal either.

The option is only (currently) available for games bought on Steam.[R-DEV]Spush wrote:I thought you can disable the steam overlay by selecting the game in the steam library going to properties and checking off the steam community in-game option, then selecting okay. Or is that a different option?

I thought you could run games through steam and have the overlay via import custom gameDragnerok_X wrote:The option is only (currently) available for games bought on Steam.

You can, you just can't disable the overlay for individual non-Steam games.Arab wrote:I thought you could run games through steam and have the overlay via import custom game

It should be released with the Syrian mini-mod, as it is part of it.Kerryburgerking wrote:-pic-

That is indeed part of the Syrian Faction. Although there is a chance the maps and certain vehicles will be released for other factions before that as the syrian faction is a long way from release and some of it could need testing upfront.Kerryburgerking wrote:

On the actual model, it's exported, textured, just needs a coding finish and a HUD I believe. But it works

Nice to hear I guess maybe MEC or Militia could use it?[R-CON]Mineral wrote:That is indeed part of the Syrian Faction.
