I, personally would say killing a Commander is like killing a mother-cub - DON'T DO IT or they will focus all their energy and spare resources looking for you; great for the rest of the team - But not you, especially when you have a job to do!

After just spec-opsing it up on 7-gates, I knifed a lone Officer by some Bunker foundations at the British Outpost, and it's only just dawned upon me that it was probably the enemy Commander - Whoops!

The rounded ended with 355 to China, as we never lost the River Outpost; I ended with 78 points, 1 kill and 0 deaths - It doesn't seem like much, but that amounts to:

Killing the British Commander
Destroying a Bunker foundation
Blowing up the British Commander's Support Truck
Knifing an enemy rally-point, that then got slaughtered before they realised their rally-point was gone and place a new one.

It doesn't look too great on paper, but in the field it's a very useful kit.

The previous round, Jabal - Me and Masaq came like 24th and 28th with only 100 points to our name - That amounted to:

Blowing 2 sections in the MEC Main Bridge that never got repaired, preventing fast vehicular access to their front lines.
Blowing up a Bunker in East Al Burj
Killing a Sniper in East Al Burj
Destroying all AA (4) at the MEC Main

EDIT:

I also destroyed an APC and two support trucks at the Main, too. -M

You're a great SL anyway, Scorch =) I played my first round since 0.6beta a couple of days ago and had a great time in your squad. It was Fool's Road (on Thor's?) and we won the round by a few points. Some guy kept stalking you with a knife for kicking him..hehe.

Nice vid too.

Our base rape rules specify that there should be no base rape except for spec ops/engineers attacking assets. We did try to be more granular, and allow a bit more freedom - for example attacking the runway on Kashan was allowed, but not taxiing jets and vehicles etc. However, we just couldn't get it to work as hoped. Either the attacking jets would 'accidentally' kill jets on the ground, or there'd be so much screaming about being base raped that the admins wouldn't get a game themselves.

So we decided on the no base rape except specops/engineers.

I see nothing wrong with what Lilgeez was doing on the whole. In my opinion the commander IS an asset, and is therefore fair game. Officers are always a higher priority target during combat, and it's been like that for centuries. If the CO can't protect himself, or get someone to protect him, then he deserves his lead lunch. And if the CO is too busy hiding, or tying up his team's resources by protecting him, then the team as a whole is less effective and so weaker - to the obvious advantage of the opposition. Great tactics!

The one thing I wasn't happy with were the vehicle kills at the end, and if I'd have been on the server at the time I'd have booted him for that.

On the whole - it was fair tactics.

milsims.blogspot.com wrote:Good post Heskey. If you're worried about your score go back to BF2v. PR is all about the experience. I don't even look at my score. Whenever the round completes I'm off to get another espresso.
David mate, I'm sorry but I find that attitude a little laughable. For some context as to my play; I've been playing PR since version 0.3 was released. I play for a couple of hours a week, I'm pretty confident that I'm one of the better players you'll find on any public server and I'd consider myself on a par with the average clan player.

I've been playing on the T&T server regularly since November. In that time I've played with and against Hesky a lot.

He's not a BF2 junkie. He's not a score-whore. He's not a l33t sniper boi.

He *is* one the best blackhawk pilots I've seen, he's a **** shot with a sniper rifle and he is an excellent squad member. I found out last night that he's a good spec ops wallah as well.

Saying to someone who plays PR as competently as he does "go back to vBF2 if your score matters that much" is ridiculous. I agree - playing PR is largely about the experience of it for me. What anybody else feels PR is about is up to them.

Fact is, the scoring system could have been completely removed by now. It hasn't. Instead it's been tinkered with and updated so that team-based play is rewarded, and that for most actions there is a point-value awarded based on how difficult the task is.

Destroy a tank with HAT - Lots of points.
Shoot an infantryman with a jet - Very few points.

So, a player can take that as an indication that yes, the fact that points are in-game matters and that it's ok to want a good score.

Yeah, if you spend the entire round worrying about your K :D ratio and your score, you're probably not the kind of person I want to see in my squad. On the other hand, a player that does whatever his SL asks and does it effectively and quickly, and uses VOIP and etc etc etc - if they want to see some recognition for their work at the end of the round, I can understand that.

If I've led a squad all round, and we've worked damn hard and wracked up kills and died very few times - yeah, I've done it because I enjoy leading a squad and helping the team win. But damn right - I also want the team to know that my guys did a good job, and I want the enemy to see that my guys collectively scored more kills than half their team combined. It's a game, it's competetive, and winning isn't everything by any means but recognition for hard work is good.

I can second that. On Monday night, Heskey flew one of the most amazing evac missions I have ever seen to pick up my squad that was pinned down on a rocky outcrop by the western river on Zatar Wetlands. It was so incredible, in fact, that I emailed a friend and described the experience as a way of luring him back to PR (which he hasn't played since it was PRMM).

Do I care about my points in game? No. Do I check them now and again to see how I'm doing? Sure. The various actions he describes above should attract more points.

if you aernt watching the vid then what are you doing on this thread?

awesome vid, whoever thinks the spec ops kit is useless should watch this and shut up. although i would rather have it limited to 4 instead of 2 so that having a spec ops squad would be possible.

OT, and not to detract from Heskeys skills, but have you been with ScoththeKiller [or something similar]
YouTube - Littlebird Low-flying 2.101
he once went to drop be off, took a round from a chinese apc, lost his tail rotor and managed to make it back, flying low, to the main US base while still taking machine gun fire from a Nanjing... He's amazing.

Agreed, its not about points, its the experience, but points sort of sometimes coincide with what people are doing for the team, so its sometimes needed to see. And it also gives you a good feeling knowing your squad kicked major rear ;)

Tell me about it, this guy rocks.. I had him on my squad a few times, and OH MY GOSH! He is always there when I need him for fast evacs from fishing village to estate for example. He has landed me ontop of the estate building at full speed, he flew in and out in amatter of seconds. He also dropped us off in one of those small building courtyards (the wall surrounding was litterally the size of the chopper) he dropped us off in there no problem.

also he dropped us off INSIDE THE MINE!!!

nah only kidding :D

Back on topic :) ... I think Destroying assets should get you more points... because (like masaq explained, you don't get much).

Great vid, not sure what all the detractors are on about. This is what the specops kit was made for. Dropping assets, throwing the chain of command into confusion and disrupting their order of battle. The CO is as much an asset as a bunker and should be treated as such. The bit with the flashbang and 2 in the chest was textbook. Good work.

I mean, to be honest I'm not an uber Spec Ops dude, most of it was just sheer coincidence, one lucky event after another, or... just plain stupidness from my "Opposing Forces" .

When it was all taking place I was laughing harder than I have ever laughed before on a game... That is what gave me the urge to spend 3 hours creating this *masterpeice* (excuse my video editing skills).
Thankyou to all that made our night that night Including the PR team, The Players, T&T/Admins and of course Scorch :) .

I would have to say good job on the sabotage missions but call your attention to a few flaws:

1 - Too much Ego in my opinion
2 - Making fun of your enemies (adding their nicks and commentaries) shows lack of respect
3 - Running after enemies that spawned and are running away from Main Base (haunting them down) is base raping!
4 - Running around trying to knife the enemies in their main base is base raping!
5 - Trying to kill the enemy commander is somehow understanding but you'll never be sure if it is the commander. Usually sticking to your sabotage mission would be better then risking it for a kill.
6 - Road kills in their main base are just absurd... and deserve a kick.
7 - If you completed your mission of destroying the enemy asset you should retrieve back to a safe position away from their main base. That will lower the possibility of having to engage the enemy and still maintain the option of spotting enemy movements and construction of new assets. This includes the need to resupply so that you can repeat your mission.

A good player on a sabotage mission is the one that can complete his mission without being detected or needing to engage the enemy and that can successfully escape to an extraction point after completing his mission.
