On maps I am more familiar and comfortable with I tend to push the helicopter to its limits. If I haven't flown there much I'm a little more timid to fly so low as I don't know what kind of terrain is up ahead.

Flying low takes a little practice and each bird has different handling characteristics. So just because you can fly a Blackhawk just fine, doesn't mean you'll have the same success with a Chinook.

Well I cannot say I know of any maps on PR where high flying was a good option, as far as trans is considered. Attack helis are another story altogether.
But not all pilots can effectively fly street level. And then theres the pilot who gets spooked at the sound of the AA alarm and crashes. But imho, trans is meant for fast and low and attack is typically meant for high altitude, while not going too fast and not too slow. Trans: Start high, dive low and fast and use the buildings, trees, and hills as cover. Attack helis to me are about surprise attacks. Keep hidden, acquire your target and BOOM, unleash.

Flying street level itself isn't very difficult with a bit of practice, and I'm sure you can get away with it sometimes in attack helicopters. The factors though that you can easily be heard before you have a view on them, making everyone look your way and your low altitude (probably not very fast either due to all the buildings), your low and too-close point of view and an easy target for everything apart from AA makes it too risky if the enemy team has 32 players and isn't already getting dominated by your team.

Unless you do like Jersits and place c4 on the ground and blow it up when unfortunate unaware pilot flies over...KABOOM =]

Flying street level is one of the first things I learned back in BF2 cos I thought it was so cool that I could do it. To be honest it's not that hard (in PR or vanilla) once you learn the dimensions of the helicopter as well as the handling of each individual one; some of them handle like a freaking bus others as light as a feather.

Just keep a steady speed and use the rudders to turn. I don't even worry about running into a tank or BTR really cos you should be low and fast enough that you can zoom over them right out of their possible line of fire and down another road. Keep in mind they're not expecting an Little Bird to suddenly be driving down the street, while you're well aware they may be around the next corner. By the time they react you should either be out of there or a Hydra or two short.

I think im correct in saying, but in my 2 years of flying in PR there has hardly ever been an occasion when using the rudders at high speed has been effective, let alone actually made a difference. Im pretty sure this is one of the core differences between PR's flying model and vanilla Bf2's.

I love when helicopter pilots fly low, it's so easy to own them with tank main gun or IFV / APC cannon.
