Grozny, wow.. I just watched a shitload of Russian videos documenting Grozny and the surrounding area. Very excited to see how this turns out. You're going to have a city center right? One of these videos featured a market place that the russians set up camp near, it was crazy.. their btr's were getting mined left and right cause they camped up in the city.

Hehe, don't get your expectations up, It will definetely not be like you see it in the videos :P

I've seen that video, it's the one with the BTR getting mined like 50 meters outside the "base" ? :P
Since I'm making Grozny there will be a city centre, although you may have a more specific idea of a "city centre"? :P I have had some thoughts of making some kind of "VCP" inside the city. I will see what I can do :)

Yeah I'm using some of them atm, the problem is I can't find this specific one with the metal balconies, they have like a metal plate which covers the balcony.

Hi, been a little while since an update so im just asking how progress is going. Last time i checked you seemed to be steaming along I hope you've managed to keep the good pace but breaks and dealing with RL issues is fine id just like to see how its going. :)

Hey Waldov!Yeah I have been taking some time off, But before the break I made some progress which I haven't showed, so I'm actually really close to being finished with static placement, I got about 1/4 of the city left and after that I will go through the map for more detailed checks and fixes :) I will post some pictures in a couple of days. I still have a pretty low motivation to start on it again, but I'm hoping it will be back in some week or so :)

Hey just asking whats up with the map, it looks great ATM and i believe it has much potential being such a unique and high quality map. Id hate to see this one just get filed away somewhere. bringing the streets of Grozny to PR would be Epic! I hope you can keep up the work.

Hey! Im sorry about the afk. It seems I can't get my motivation back. I feel like I really don't got that much support for this kind of map, and I've seen alot of official PR maps being made so I really dont think my map will make it to the game. I will try to finish it sometime soon though.

Hey! Im sorry about the afk. It seems I can't get my motivation back. I feel like I really don't got that much support for this kind of map, and I've seen a lot of official PR maps being made so I really dont think my map will make it to the game. I will try to finish it sometime soon though.
I'm sorry but what were you expecting then? All 50000 members to come in this thread and say 'WE WANT MORE'? This is normal for all map development threads. You need to seek motivation in yourself, trust me when the map finished it will be the best feeling ever ;) PR always needs maps,whether official or non-official, as long as it's a good map they will be fun to play! And this one is shaping up to be a great map. Try to seek motivation again, would be a shame to see this one lost between all the other scrapped maps :(

That Would be nice :P But yes, you are absolutely right about finding motivation in myself, my point was just that by looking at other WIPs, this one doesn't seem to be a "top hit" and togheter with official maps being made it's extra hard to find motivation. When I started learning how to make maps I thought the PR team needed help with it, like there was a shortage of mapmakers and that was a huge boost in motivation, knowing or rather thinking I was among a very few ppl doing it which meant it was also more important to really get some results :P
But I will do my best to finish it :)

The best looking map may still be not the one with the best gameplay ;)
I say finish it to the best of your abilities, and we'll be the judges :)

Just finish it, when you can find the motivation.
And if it won't get in make changes to it or start on another idea.

Anyways. Try to bring it to an end and you'll see what happens.

Yeah man i think you've undervalued your map here. Its one of the most viewed maps on the list taking into account how long its been around. The map quality looks fine and once the light maps have been done it will look awesome. As mentioned before the map will be mostly rated on gameplay for the most part which will put your map pretty high up. Your efforts aren't in vain! I'm one of many hoping to see the final product and the fact your map is based on the greatest battle of the 21st century will give you a major edge over all the others. So dont be afraid to pull this one off it will be epic whatever way you look at it.

You seem to be reasonably creative and I think you should keep on going.

The only thing that I dislike about this map is the yellowishgreenpuke color texture used in the terrain. Even with LMs it's not going to look good. I suggest to go for a darker look, more brownish. Also change the detailtexture a bit here and there. Check the muddy ones.

OG wise, you need to simplify. Keep the dead pine tree and the "branches" one. Basically the two with less leaves on them. The occasional green tree won't hurt, but even for that use one type only. Don't make a big deal out of this. Some maps use 2 to 3 types of trees only. No need for that many.

Also, don't forget to space the russian apartment buildings. Make a parking lot, playground, courtyard, bus stop/terminal and any other little area you can think of between each building (or pair).

Your map is looking great. I know why you're kind of demoralised by the other maps you see around like Shitokan Island, it's because those maps are shown with in-game screens, whic means, better lighting and lightmaps, but your screens look ugly because of the editor.

If you are to abanddon this, please hand it over to some good mappers from the community, Gx, CTRifle, Mineral, Arcturus_Shielder, Rodrigoma, Zeno from the top of my head.

Thanks guys! yeah I will definitely give it to whoever wants to continue, but for now I will give it some more time, I still got some hope for that fakking motivation xd

There is support, people are here, helping you with your level whenever you encounter a problem. If you mean more people are not posting praising comments over how good it looks, its probably based on two things, one, paranoia no one likes it or it wont play well, which we all have. Or two, the fact that there are SOOOO many abandoned maps, less people come here now, or even care as much.

If you want some more support I recommend you work on doing low lightmaps and adjusting you lighting to make it look how you want, that usually helps boost quite a bit of support/ praising comments.

Every mapper hits there wall at some point, and has trouble getting back into it, but just keep pressing on through, so it can keep getting better and better.

Keep going! Dont let this become abandoned, you already put so much work into it.

DO YOUR LIGHTMAPS it makes it looks sooooo much better, and you really get a feel for the maps environment
