All I can say is EA and the FH2 dev team is involved and that this was partially based in fact.
Would make sense why they spent all that time making the new installation menus and stuff that were in the news a while back. I would either think that

A) PR2 is still in development and v1.0 is actually coming out soon
B) PR2 has been disguised as 1.0 and is going to blow us all away. Would make sense since there has been nothing mentioned of PR2 for years, besides "very much in development"
C) There is no spoon

Either one of those are plausible. I hope for B, but plan for C.

PR2 isn't on BF2 or the BF2 engine.
Isn't it on like a Crytek engine now or is it still C4.

v1.0 will not be on the Refractor engine.

I think the above few posts warrant for a whole new stage of forum alert.

v1.0 is the first stage in a port to the C4 engine designed to make PR independent of both the Refractor Engine and Battlefield 2.

v1.0 will look pretty much the same as v.973 because the port is still largely dependent on BF2 code and assets (the porting process is why the development of v1.0 has taken so long) but it's actually on a completely different engine. There are a few changes however - the interior sounds featured on the last devcast weren't possible on the Refractor Engine (they tested this a couple years back) but they are on the C4 Engine.

Again, this is what I've heard and not fact.

Play FH2, the difference between interior and exterior sounds exist, but they hurt my ears so bad, hope this doesn't happen in PR.

The thing is it's not an EULA violation to switch the engines. It's an EULA violation to modify the engine, but as long as BF2 is still required to play PR the team can port assets and code.

The FH2 team figured out how to do it a couple months ago and then shared the information with PR (I think).

That's the level of believability of Shock's statements so far.

I hope what he says is true, but I'm not certain if he is delusional or spot on.

It's all based on sworn testimony!

In all seriousness, if it's true (keep in mind this is old, secondhand info), it's not a big change. For the most part the game would look and be coded exactly the same way, maybe with a few changes here and there - the only significant one being PR v1.0 would be run on the C4 engine.

My assumption is that once PR's ported, the devs are going to slowly get rid of vBF2 code and replace it with their own until PR is independent of BF2 (basically it would be like taking a Toyota Corolla and replacing it with Ford Mustang parts until you get a Mustang). That's an enormous task, so it could take years.

Anyway, right now I've been told that PR v1.0 will be ported to the C4 Engine as part of the v1.0 patch but will still be dependent on vBF2 files (and therefore not standalone). Again, it would be exactly the same game run on a different engine.

Hmm, interesting. However if it's true it will be disappointing if the graphics did not improve somewhat.

And who would be the kind person that shared this info with you? ;)

All I want to say is that the Toyota Corolla is a surprisingly fine car, and I don't know what to think of a possible port to another engine.

Some things, Shock, here are affecting your credibility:
1. You might be an oldtimer on the forums but you're thus far not really an insider.
2. Why would the devs allow any of this information to be spilled this way if they've been trying at secrecy for so long and so hard? (this forum is known for it's vigorous moderators)

If so then why would they do such a big thing for such little results?

Just figured I'd address this silly rumor.

Project Reality: BF2 1.0 will be on the BF2 engine.

Again, it's a retired dev and I haven't the foggiest whether or not it's true. This came about because one of my hobbies is writing, and I've been working on a war novel that follows around a British Para company in Afghanistan in 2006 for a couple of years now. About a year ago I ended up asking the aforementioned dev, who is a serving member of the British Army, to be something of a factual advisor for the story. They said sure, and we've been working off-and-on on the novel since then.

Anyway, last week we were discussing some stuff over TeamSpeak and I asked them what they knew about v1.0 and they said there had been intentions to do a port.

As for why they're porting it - if they are at all - a standalone PR is the logical long-term objective for the dev team for pretty obvious reasons and that would mean a new engine sooner or later I guess.
