Helicopter and Jet flying, Joystick or Mouse..

I think it's just the nature of Project reality, that makes the keyboard and mouse far superior over the flightstick. Even though the devs tried their hardest the helicopters can't be all that realistic on the bf2 engine. I'm putting this out there because I have spent an equal amount of time using both and personally I would never dare using the joystick to pilot helis in PR, just as I wouldn't dare to use a mouse to fly one in MS Flight simulator.

Anyone else feel the same?

Yeh no im quite the oposite,... im some ways- I would never use a mouse for FSX etc (like you) BUT i would never use the mouse for most helos in Pr, but i WOULD use the mouse for say a Little Bird because their forward flight is so slow and their rate of climb is so high, its like the overpowered helos in Vannila, like flying a balloon- i only use Joystick with most transport helos in PR because the forward flight dynamics is more like a Fixed wing aircraft.

use an x52 for the fixed wing aircraft and mouse/kb for rotor wing, PR's helicopter flight model is just to unpredictable for me to feel comfortable using a joystick, Especially the hueys witch seem to be using a completely different flight model than the rest of the helicopters. Plus I have a very high dpi mouse witch is quite nice for handling the helicopters.

Yeh.. i have high dpi mouse and all that.. but i still feel, because the flight 'models' are different in Pr, more realistic and thus handle more like a fixed wing- the joystick fits Pr perfectly- Nice one with the X52- how do you like it?

Meh, in many ways PR helicopter handling is more realistic, but I prefer CA's modelisation of it. It's a much less forgiving experience requiring more thought into the venues of attack when doing strafes and the like.

Plus you don't see people constantly flying upside down

When i fly, i use my joystick to fly with the aircraft's and my mouse for the helicopters.
With a joystick i can fly smoothly and without any shocks, at least in a plane.
When using a joystick in a chopper i can't keep control when I do some thight manouvres.
But with a mouse i can do that in a chopper.

so for me: joystick -> plane, mouse -> heli.

Yeh... whenever i try some tactical manouver with M&kb in a chopper its amazingly hard- because i have to move the mouse back up to the top of the pad and move it down-- so when im flying helicopter i fly joystick so can make tight turns and continuous loops etc.

Thats just me, If your joystick works for you for both of them then by all means use it, i just prefer the mouse/keyboard for the helo, i started out with it and just love it now.

If using a joystick, pitch and roll are reversed when 'negative throttle' is selected (ie helicopter is trying to descend). Hence to roll a toppling helicopter upright, you select moderate negative throttle and move the stick away from the direction you want it to roll. Really wierd stuff.

It's not unique to joysticks, but is a problem in general with the inverted controls.

However joysticks allow you to set a fixed incremental rate of negative thrust, unlike simply taping "S"

Hm.. whenever im about to topple a chopper i just put full negative thrust-- does the trick-

ive even righted a chopper that was fully upside down- on its blades.

But my secret to becoming the best pilot in PR is just to simply don a pair of Aviator Sunglasses and put Highway To The Danger zone on at full blast in the background and then no missile will ever hit you becuase you radiate an EPIC WIN sheild .

I started off with Keyboard only, now Its Keyboard + mouse for Helos, Jets are joystick.
