You concentrate all action in the middle of the map, leaving a huge chunk of the map unused. Here's what I would do(this is a suggestion and consider it as such):
Map had been fazed out for a reason. Now, if you really want to get it back into the mod, you should considering giving it a face lift, a serious one
. So get a plan done, and present it to Rhino, and he will help you
have fun

Does anyone know where the Black Gold runway files are located, Rhino mentioned it in the airbase thread but I only see the Qinling one under airbases, so I will have to make do until later?

Sareeema, Black Gold etc don't use the new runway system you should be aiming to use. Black Gold uses the vBF2 runways (which zfight with the terrain on the edge of a 4km map) and terrain textures iirc, where Sareeema just uses terrain textures iirc.
There are currently no maps ingame which use the new airbase system, although Rudd is looking at getting some made in the Black Gold airbase setup, which perhaps you could use if you really need to which he will be hopefully posting about soon.

As an airbase runway-taxiway set-up, I use a combination of roads and terrain color/textures.

Here's a SS of one of my airfields: its just a normal road(airportroad1 template with a width of 22 m and the rest its just painted(well, except for white lines which are industrial template roads). Under the runway I've placed some resuply statics, forgot the name now, its in the statics list)
