We are following the route of including it within the next PR release, rather than a stand alone mod. That way, everyone gets to download it and people don't have to worry about switching mods all the time. (It also cuts our workload by a half, but thats beside the point :wink
We have started making further headway with the first release, and what we are anticipating to do with it. We would really like to bring back some of the older, now outdated maps such as Ghost Train, Tad Sae, and perhaps even Road to Kyonganinoningingoningsomething. We are also looking at developing some larger 2km maps, with the mindset that we would like some form of aerial presence in the form of helicopters.
Our main reason for deciding to bring back 1km maps follows our gameplay design for the weapons. We are looking towards focusing the battles at a closer distance, with a mixture of semi-auto and automatic weapons. The M16 we will be using for the US will only have 20 rounds in comparison to the AK47 30 round mag. To counter this, we gave the US 20 round mags for the M16, whereas the SKS Siminov will only have 10. It's assymetric, in that the NVA will probably fare better in CQB than the US, however we feel both sides should balance each other out.

So as you can see, we have a fair bit of development to do. None of these lists are final, and we are trying to work out a compromise between balancing the factions and authenticity. What we would like to iterate is that development has picked up, the mod is not dead and it is moving forward. Over the next few months more information and images will come out as and when the other devs deem fit. Hopefully, there will also be some in-game screen shots in the not so distant future.
