Very high levels of ping for BF2 only

Post by ForLibertyandFreedom »

Hey guys, recently been playing a lot of BF3. Which my ping was averaging between 32-42 even at the busiest periods of time. But I got bored of the CoD style firefights and decided to play PR some more.

Now, 3 days ago my ping was absolutely fine, about the same as in BF3, however since Friday, my ping keeps spiking, on NWA it pinged to 360.

I have turned my firewall, my AVG and anything that could possibly make it high. However, this hasn't worked. Virgin claim there's nothing wrong on their end, so this means something on my PC is running and draining it.

Any idea, it's pissing me off to no end.

Check to see if your router has an internal firewall, disable it during PR play. Many of the router firewalls are recognizing the in game voip as a DDOS attack, causing router to act nutty and increase pings.

This next suggestion is severe, it's going to slow down your internet browsing for a week or so as your DNS cache is rebuilt....

Flush DNS - What's My DNS?
Flush DNS

Most operating systems and DNS clients will automatically cache IP Addresses and other DNS results, this is done in order to speed up subsequent requests to the same hostname. Sometimes bad results will be cached and therefore need to be cleared from the cache in order for you to communicate with the host correctly. All major operating systems allow you to force this process, outlined below are the common steps you will need to follow in order to flush your DNS cache.
This next suggestion will renew your IP connection to your ISP, it releases your current IP address assigned by your ISP and gives you a new address. It's possible you were given a IP address to an ISP network hub on the say, the far side of the county or one city further than normal.
1. Close any programs with active internet connections.
2. Press Windows-R to open the Run dialog. Or Start->Search
3. Enter: cmd
(this opens a Command window) (right click run as admin if needed)
3. Enter: ipconfig /release
4. Enter: ipconfig /renew
5. Enter: exit
