[AAR] I just had fun without firing a single shot

So I was just playing in Operation Archer, and my single squadmate and I were searching for unknown caches. When I think of Operation Archer, I think of this one time when the entire team got pinned up trying to destroy a cache in the village in the Southeast corner of the map, so I decide to check it out with my squadmate. We searched the buildings one by one, and finally there was one we couldn't get inside - so I decided to jump on a wall from a hill and do a balancing act to get in through the second floor. On the first floor, lo and behold, a very easily defendable cache. So I call my squadmate over and together we burn the cache, to the surprise of other BLUFOR squads as the teams were pretty small. Then, a techie from a hill away begins firing on us - inaccurately, thanks to the distance. I decide to make for the southern caves. However, even from several hills away, there is no outrunning a techie. After crossing two hills, the techie caught up with us and pinned us, and so I decide to call in a Chinook, which I previously did not want to do because of the .50 cal fire. This wasn't too far from main, so my squadmate and I anxiously watched as the Chinook came out of main (he had just dropped some guys off and returned to base), and we made an epic escape. The techie gunner, who must've been so smug having trapped us, was left with all his efforts wasted.

That was the most fun I had in PR for a long time, and I didn't even fire a shot.

Eh...I think there is a wrong understanding of "ghosting" here...

Searching for Unknowns is a legitimate tactic...some may see it as stupid, lame, boring, etc. but it is not against any rules - compared to ghosting, which is when you KNOW where the unknown is and go straight for it. This could be achieved by having some (clan-)mate on the other team and just tell you over teamspeak or switching teams and just remembering where the Unknown was/is. Regarding that I and my mates have a clear policy: Don't ask, Don't tell! :) If someone of us switched over (since we wanna play on one side together) he has to be shut up and let the others decide where to go...

--------------------

To the OP:

NEVER call in a chinook when under .50 fire! The possibly saved 4 tickets of you two soldiers could never make up for the value of a transport chopper (on Archer it is even more important) not to mention the possible ticket loss of chopper and pilot (and you two).

Other than that: Well done! Finding an Unknown sometimes safes your day as Blufor (especially when the team just wastes wave after wave on the known by attacking from the same direction or in single squads over and over again!) and yeah...PR can be fun without firing a shot!!!

3 days ago my mate and I managed to pull of the same on Korengal ON A KNOWN CACHE! Like a textbook example of sneakery! We just joined the game 5 min before and since people where struggling to get even close to it we decided to go around and sneak in from behind. The adrenalin level was too damn high! :)

Driving APC's is probably the most fun you can have in PR without firing, give it a try.

Or properly using the "Sniper" kit.

It definitely needs to be renamed "Recon".

You don't need to fire a shot, to do your job. Relay positions, call in CAS. You can do a lot with a pair of binocs, and a map.

I agree completely. I love sitting on hills with my binos and calling in enemy assets/infantry. Especially when a teammate uses that intel to take out a target.

Yeah, I wasn't ghosting... I'm not in a clan and I was just running around because there were no known caches coming up.

I called in the Chinook because I managed to reach a valley with a very nice landing spot, and I knew the pilot was excellent, having flown with him during several games.

And good job pulling this off on a known cache! I could never imagine this happening... the closest was when BLUFOR scattered smoke grenades with two or three grenadiers near the cache, and a German with a terrorist kit almost reached the cache through the smoke before being sprayed down by my squad's AKs.
