BF2/PR Lag like hell
Hello Community,
I've started playing Battlefield II PR few days ago and its an awesome mod! Very good work..
But i have extrem lag issues in multiplayer - here u can see it (starting at 0.45 sec)
Battlefield 2 (PC) Multiplayer Lag Help Request - YouTube
It's a jerky movement - like teleporting - crazy to explain and UNPLAYABLE for me.
My system and software (absoutly oversized for bf 2 mods):
Intel Core i7 2600K 4,0 GHz
Zotac GTX580 AMP!
8GB Corsair Vegeance DDR3-1600 CL9
Asus P8P67 Rev. 3.1 (B3)
Buffalo Killer NIC
X-Fi Soundblaster
64GB SSD
BenQ XL2410T 120Hz TFT
Punkbuster: updated
PR: 0,97
BF2: 1,51
All drivers updated: yes
Why does the game not work on my machine?
Ty

Hi and welcome to the forums. I've moved your post to this sub-forum.
If the problem is occurring in vBF2 the issue cannot be a PR bug.
Run a tracert to a game server or to these forums and post up the results.

Make sure your antivirus or anti-malware programs doesn't interfere with your game.Try to set them to game mod or even disable, in case of anti-malware soft.
Make sure firewall doesn't block your game too.
Try disabling hyper threading...

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
Ok another I7 unhappy user. Try this one here and welcome to forums.
[R-COM]LITOralis.nMd wrote:For first time I am stumped, your Notebook should eat up PR and spit it out without a problem.
I only have one guess, your CPU is switching to Turbo when playing PR, and when it switches off Turbo your frames drop. However your CPU is a beast and should not even need Turbo to run PR.
DO you have many background processes running?
You might try starting PR, log in, join a server, then alt-tab out, open your task manager, right click on BF2.exe and select "affinity" and set it to the Core 2. Back in Task manager, right click PR.exe and select the Core 3.
This will leave your OS and mumble, TS3, Xfire etc on Core 0, BF2 on Core 2, and PR on Core 3, ...
THis might not help, if it does not help, go back to task manager and Undo the Affinity options.
EDIT: Could be a bottleneck in the HDD, but I doubt it. I suggest you defrag your hard drive.

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
Welcome to the forums.
Massive's post above isn't the actual solution, it is the final step in the troubleshooting.
You can set the processor affinity of BF2.exe, PR.exe and TR.exe each to a single core, it sometimes fixes this. If not, proceed to following directions.
You got your 2600k OC'ed to 4,0 GHz. Nice.
But that is part of the problem. I am new to this problem , but we found out how to immediately stop all BF2 lag, both for regualr BF2 and PR:BF2.
You need to turn off Intel Turbo Boost 2 in your BIOS.
Reboot, enter your BIOS, found the Turbo Boost option, , and disable it.
Save BIOS settings,
exit BIOS, and continue to load Windows.
As you have OC'ed a 2600k I'll assume you understand how TurboBoost interacts with OC'ing, if not ask us and we'll get people on here to help you out.
I am still using a OC'ed Q9550 and and waiting for IvyBridge, but we have a lot of SandyBridge Overclockers on here, they should be able to help you out.

When you overclock, turn of turbo boost, so like Lito said do not interfere with your OC. You will see no difference with that thing on/off.

Hello Community,
my FPS do not drop while the lag appears, definitely! I watch them with Fraps and i got constant 100 frames per second.
I'm actually running my 2600K @ 40 * 100MHz = 4000MHz
Idling @ 16 * 100MHz = 1600MHz
temperatures are max. 50C on the cores (watercooled)
my notes:
Thank you for your answers guys, thanks alot!!

- Then I go to the desktop, after that i switch back into the game

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
Do you have Intel Turbo Boost enabled in your BIOS?
It causes this problem in PR, and also in Rift, in Star Wars Old Republic, and quite a few other games.
SO please let us know if it is enabled or not, if Turbo Boost is enabled, if it is enabled turn it OFF,
test it, and we'll help you more from there.

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
Turbo Boost is enabled in my UEFI (BIOS).
If I disable it, the multiplier limit is 34 = 3400MHz.
If I select a multiplier >34 the turbo boost does enable itself.
What should I do?

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
This is where I have to call in other people,
I know it's a C1E, C3, C6, EIST, Speedstep, Turbo Boost, Core parking interaction problem.
I just forgot how they work together.

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
This problem was VERY common in March 2011 for the exact combo of your mobo, cpu and any GTX 560, 570 and 580 GPUs....
Sandy bridge computer random Freezes - General-Homebuilt - Homebuilt-Systems
And related...
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1583213&page=4
So my first advise is to flash your mobo and GPU BIOS with newest BIOS...
Especially the mobo BIOS has to be from after March 2011.
I remember it because I almost bought a PC at that time with almost same combo. But I don't know the fix, cause I didn't buy it.

I just hate Intel...AMD FTW. I admit Intel has better CPUs now but for years AMD was the king. And king comes to reclaim its throne - when its ready

BTT, for us the gamers if you find any of this **** enabled in BIOS SHUT IT OFF.

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
What is your Number of "Prerendered Frames" (de: "Maximale Anzahl der vorgerenderten Einzelbilder") set to (nVidia Control Panel)? The lower the better for fast gameplay, too low can cause fps drops. Too high and you might see what you have (the value should be around 2 or 3 from my experience).

Re: BF2/PR Lag like hell
We all agree that your machine's specifications should let you play PR at all high settings, and easily play without lag.
Option 1:
Let's try to get rid of background processes, maybe something is stealing CPU or GPU cycles, causing this issue.
Go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization and select the "Windows Classic" style. Click Apply.
Download gamebooster 3, Game Booster 3.0 Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance , install.
Copy your PR desktop shortcut, Drag your PR shortcut copy to the gamebooster screen.
Click the "COnfigure button" on bottom left of Gamebooster screen, then shutdown as many processes as you feel comfortable with.
---------------------------
PLease tell us the version number of your nVidia drivers.
Option 2: using the nvidia control panel bf2 profile option: "threaded optimisation" = off
Option 3:

Quote: Just to let you know that my whole clan and many of our BF2 server regulars that use nvidia cards are all CTD using any driver after 275.33.
The later drivers we installed to play BF3 to stop BF3 crashing, but when we all do this we can no longer play BF2 with the CTD, we have to pick between the latest nvidia drivers to play BF3 or the older 275.33 driver to play BF2 without CTD so atm its becoming a real pain in "well you know". The CTD can be after 4 hours or after 10 second of play its very random.
Try the 275.33 "beta and archived drivers" under "download drivers" on the nvidia site I bet alot of your crashes stop for BF2, although this sucks atm I hope NVIDIA will release a driver that works for both games and not one or the other.
We have found a fix, well so far it works to stop the CTD for all so far that have tryed it
*right click desktop and select "nvidia control panel"
*under 3d settings on the left select "manage 3d settings"
*on the right select "program settings tab"
*under "1. select a program to customise:" pick "Battlefield 2 (bf2.exe)" from the dropdown box
*under "2. Specify the settings for this program:" scroll to the bottom of the settings
*change "vertical sync" to "force on" then apply
*launch battlefield 2 and no more CTD
Dont know why this fixes it but it does, anyway...
