Normandy: Maps to expect in the future (hopefully)

Post by AfterDune »

Just thought I'd give you a tiny update on Normandy. Pretty busy with Vietnam still, but after that I'm going to give Normandy some more love - as it deserves.

Operation Overlord
A more improved version of the map. Allied starting position will be on ships instead of the docks as you know them. This map will also get a night-layer, to feature paradrops in the night before D-Day. The beaches on this layer will not be available.

Bloody Gulch
This map is originally made by Sn00x from FH2, but has granted everyone permission to use it. Of course, FH2 assets will be replaced with our own.

Minimap of the FH2 variant: http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/609/fhbattle2.jpg

This battle takes place outside Carentan. Basically, the Allies have captured Carentan, the Germans want it back. The Allies will try their best to stop the counter-attack. Germans get Panzers, US get Shermans to counter them.

La Varde
This is one of the maps from French Hope (FH2). We have been granted permission to use it in Normandy, with all of its custom Atlantic Wall statics! All FH2 statics will be replaced with our own of course.

Minimap of the FH2 variant: http://media.moddb.com/images/groups/1/7/6267/varde.jpg

This battle takes place in August 1944, many days after D-Day. The Germans have established a base of operations on the ruins of an 18th century fort. The Allies will attack from the east side.

Germans will have several fixed AT positions. Both forces will probably get Panzers/Shermans, but the focus will be on infantry mostly.

Unnamed Map
Last but not least, Pvt.LHeureux is working on another map, featuring nice bocage.

Yes, I will make the changes if/when time allows me. Got the basics done already. Now comes the hard part..

Well I guess, put flags, audit them, etc. And most importantly remove FH2 objects.

Also make sure you don't use any FH2 ground textures, sky textures, sun-flares, or ambient sounds either.

Not to worry, nothing from FH2 will be used. In the end, it's only the heightmap that's used actually. The map will be repainted, have only our own statics and textures. But all inspired by the FH2 variant of course.

Not really what i would call working together :p

The French Hope 2 team was an independent mini mod iirc which was turned down when they presented it to FH2 or something like that so all of the work was pretty much wasted

I didn't mean to sound so condescending there. The only reason I said that was because Snoox and/or the French Hope guys may have packed some [modified] FH2 content directly within the map.
