The power of the Scimi CVR(T) (AAR)

Post by Danger_6 »

This is a sort of mini after action report.

Map: Vadso
Server: NwA
Vehicle Cmdr: Danger_6
Gunner: JeoGeo

The scimitar is a vastly misunderstood vehicle, and its true power is rarely harnessed by PR players.

During the course of this map I was able to keep my scimitar up for an entire round of Vadso whilst my crew and I destroyed the following:

1 TOW spandrel
1 Tank
Several fobs
Infantry
Trucks (logi and other)

I'll begin by giving the AAR then some advice with this vehicle.

The hilltop south of Vadso city is an important strategic and tactical landmark which gives almost complete fire superiority to a team depending on who controls it. As such I positioned myself on the southern part of the map, below the mountain, in order to prevent enemies from taking control of this mountain.

Although it took a few minutes of staying in one position, I was able to hear an enemy truck approaching from Dam. I waited for the opportune moment and intercepted it on its way to the mountain. The truck and its occupants were quickly eliminated. I positioned my vehicle 100m west of the truck wreckage and began to command control over the hill.

I waited for any apcs which may come to engage us but none came (unfortunately :( ).

After another couple of minutes I decided to clear the entire mountain and did a quick recce of the entire hill top. During which we engaged and destroyed 2 enemy spotter teams and a small infantry squad flanking West Vadso.

I continued to recce the main mountain on engines off for 10 minutes or so, but there were no enemies sighted. The main fighting was happening deep within the city, therefore unless I was needed direly I wouldn't go into that fray.

My team and I RTBed for ammo and repairs. We returned to the southern part of the map again as the enemy tank was now operational. My role was to now relay information to the enemy team about tank and other armour movements. (This is the scimi's main role, reconnaissance).

The tank then positioned itself on the western side of the hill and was pummeling friendly forces at our penultimate flag. It was time for some desperate action. I positioned my vehicle behind a hill to the rear of the tank. I then disembarked and dicked on the tank with my binos. To my absolute glee the driver had left the safety of his metal hulk and jumped into the .50 cal.

I had to take advantage of this as this tank was absolutely raping our team, friendly HAT teams couldn't get a shot on it as they were directly below it and couldn't crest the hill. If I couldn't kill it, I had to render it useless, desperate times were at hand.

I instructed Jeo to load HE and aim for the .50 seat. I then moved the scimi from out of cover, Jeo engaged the target and we killed the tank's driver. The tank was forced to RTB (what I wanted). My team then took advantage of the tank leaving cover and sent a hat towards him. The tank was hit and was smoking bad.

I ordered Jeo to load AP and we began chasing the tank. 40 AP shells later and we had destroyed the enemy tank. I was absolutely ecstatic, so was my team :) .

I decided not to push my luck, so we RTBed for ammo and repairs again.

By this stage, we had lost our penultimate flag. I decided to engage the enemy more directly as there was no tank squad and our warriors had either rage quit or lost their vehicles. I moved my vehicle 40 metres behind our front line to support friendly troop movements to clear the flag. I always made sure I was in cover behind buildings.

A few minutes later and the enemy were eradicated from their positions inside the buildings and I was able to return to my hide and pounce method which this vehicle was designed for.

By this time our friendly Tank was up so I decided to return to a less aggressive stance and discriminate on our targets. After more waiting we heard an BRDM crossing the bridge so we decided to ambush it.

I dashed in behind it to take it by surprise, but to my surprise I found out it was the TOW spandrel. He had obviously seen me as he stopped and moved into cover from sight behind a thick bush. My gunner couldn't see him with thermals. I had to make a choice, charge it or wait. I decided not to charge it as his gun may activate at the last second and destroy us. I took a gamble and I told my gunner to fire blind into the bush. After a few shells, and too my horror, the Spanrel decided to let loose one of its rockets. I realized that this was an attempt in vain to kill us as they were nearly dead. My gunner quickly finished of the TOW spandrel and its crew then we returned to our hiding spot on the reverse side of the hill.

At this time our team's fortunes were reversed as our friendly tank was able to provide brilliant fire on the enemies in town from the all important hill, preventing their free movement. Our team neutralized the next flag in cap order so I decided it was time to go FOB hunting.

I hid the vehicle behind one of the many rocks on the northern side of the hill and began to observe troop movements. I quickly isolated a likely position for a fob and I sent my gunner, vehicle and I careering down the hill to destroy the fob.

En route we destroyed a HAT team. When we arrived to where I thought the fob was I quickly found the crate which led me to the fob which was knifed without hesitation.

Although I had to go out for dinner just after this, I was informed that the round shortly ended.

Be aware that I missed out on telling you what we did the majority of the time: sit, wait and pass intel. (Patience is virtue)

This is the reason why I love driving small vehicles like the BRDM, VN3 and especially the Scimitar.

These vehicles should be used to stalk prey, provide intel and harass the enemy if things are getting desperate.

If the vehicles are used in this fashion, any competent crew can ensure the survival of their vehicle, and a great contribution to the team.

tldr: I <3 the scimitar

the scimitar is a brilliant vehicle, truly, it's speed and size are very advantageous, makes up for firepower and lack of armour nicely. Earned 52 kills with it on burning sands on the inf layer recently with it. Bounding through tiny alleys, laying fire down at long ranges it's great.

Makes me wish the weasel was in PR it would be the same, just even smaller and quicker.

Great jog. Thats how it should be played. Defensively and its much more interesting and you die less, or dont die at all.

I remember joining a server and the whole game the skimitars just sat there not being used. I asked why and everyone started going off on how horrible they are and how they are only good at running over landmines.
