Two Air squads?

I am wondering if on the British side it would be useful to have two air squads:

CAS/Ground/GR3/RAF who's job would be talking to inf and doing ground attack

A2A/Fighter/SeaHarrier/Navy who would stay high and defend the ground attack squad

This would reduce spam to the Air combat gang, but they would be obliged to keep an eye on the Ground sqaud to keep them protected.

I haven't watched the ARG air Force ingame much but the same may apply to them.

I'm not a PR Pilot so I ask what they think?

Well there can only be 6 planes at one time, so most of the time it's better for all jets to get in the same squad so bombers can tell fighters on voice chat if they need help. Also, there is most of the time a "Spotters" or "Recon" squad taking care of lasing and organising ground attacks.

People wanted to give me a medal for lasing for CAS in one round with the sniper kit :) . Shame it doesn't give points, I can lase every living units of the enemy army but not get one single point for the points scored by the CAS :(

Well in a dream team:

CAS = 3 pilots plus SL plus sniper

AIR = 3 pilot plus 3 ground or ship based AA?

Yes, ideally I am trying to communicate with players pregame to have exclusively CAS vehicles in one squad, and designated air to air in the other squads.

Ideally, we have two jet squads/side in the falklands.

CAS - 6 men
>sniper
>medic
>GR 3 w/ 2x 1000lb GBU / Skyhawk A4 w/ 3x 500lb GPB
>GR 3 w/ rocket pods / Skyraider A-1H w/ Rocket pods
>GR 3 w/ 2x 500lb GPB / skyhawk w/ 3x 500lb GPB
>GR 3 w/ 2x 500lb GPB / mirage III with 2x AA-11, and 2x 500lb GPB

Air Patrol - 5 men
>Sea harrier / Mirage w/ AA-11 + AIM-9
>Sea harrier / Mirage w/AA-11 + AIM-9
>Sea harrier / Mirage w/ AA-11 + EXOCET
>One man to incessantly sit on the AA in stanley, or San Carlos. Pilots when shot down remain in their main spawns on AA emplacements

In both cases leaders need to be willing and able to properly lead, but of course this doesnt always happen.

That Mirage would in fact be an IAI Dagger (Israeli made Mirage 5 with no radar and a few other things).

Its a little out of place since its a fighter bomber but probably best going in the CAS squad and being mainly a CAS jet with only using its AA missiles for defence of itself and the CAS squad. Also its probably best joining up with the AA flight wing when it can since its to fast to go in formation with the A-4s but being in a CAS squad is best IMO :)

Like it suggest changes in red as sniper can't put down a CAS marker on the map AFAIK maybe officer can?

Sniper is the only one with the SOFLAM.

But sniper must be SL to place the CAS map markers?

Or do you need an officer kit to place those?

the CAS marker itself isn't really that useful, other than for other squads. Since all the CAS jets are in the same squad, your better off with an attack marker ;)

True dat.

But when inf wants to laze a target plus put down a CAS marker now, the SL/Officer must place the CAS marker, then the sniper lazes?

OFC with mumble CAS markers are an extra, but you'd be amazed how many pilots can't/don't talk in flight.

Bit tricky that, but only solution would be:

Give Officers SOFLAM - Nah too many
If poss make it so SL snipers could place CAS markers - but probablly a bit tricky/impossible

I've ran into this problem myself as an SL with a sniper in the squad. PLus the amount of chat in a one squad air wing means their SL has a real hard time with intra SL comms.

That's where my whole 2 air squad stuff comes from.

Sniper dose have a radio so if the sniper is SL then he should be able to place down a CAS marker + other stuff when needed.

Just to confirm?

ARG don't have any Lazer guided bombs?

Bloody realism.

Skyhawk A4 w/ 3x 500lb GPB
Skyraider A-1H w/ Rocket pods
Skyhawk A4 w/ 3x 500lb GPB
IAI Dagger with 2x AA-11, and 2x 500lb GPB
Mirage IIIEA Exocet a big Hellfire apparently....

Indeed, full list here on the loadouts of the jets here, just expand the Jet spoilers near the bottom of the OP.

In its tracking coding, ye its pretty much the same, follows a laser target since the only two types of targets to track are heat (what are on aircraft) and laser, and can't code any more into BF2 :(

But while you can lase an object and have the Exocet lock on and track it, it won't do any damage to anything other than the AC (and any other future dest ships we may have).

So basically Exocet does no damage at all and behaves like a laser guided bomb dropped too low?

Can Argie bombers etc still able to see a laze?

OK, so when the Atlantic conveyors down, it converts to AA role - Can't sink the invincible and game over.

Yes I know the loadouts ther but I'd heard rumours the exocet was laser guided but would damage other stuff. Now we know. Thanks.

So the old Brits might have quite an advantage with their 1x Harrier GR3 (B -Ground Attack - 2x 1000lb LGB) [20min Delayed Spawn] lucky its got a long spawn - someone thought of that.

Something like that, might get a visual effect when the Exocet hits a ground target, not sure.

And ye, when the bombing hud is up you can see the lock boxes.

Seemed to work really well on the Argy team except small issues aout who gets what, on any organised event on PRF certainly worth doing.

AIR were free to chat away with out spamming CAS and vica versa

The only time I saw bombs drop from the Brit team was when we where assaulting Goose Green and an A-4 came in and dropped them on the south side of the water when we where on the north :p

That was the first round mind you.

From the start i couldn't get coms with AIR cas and wasn't able to provide my Exocet carrying bomber with support, saying that my guy done a lone mission and sank the container ship.

At some point i gave up on trying to get in touch with AIR cas and just concentrated on my guys, i don't blame AIR cas as i'm sure they were getting bombarded with reports etc on mumble and couldn't hear/respond to me. I basically was trying to keep my birds in a safe place away from the air battles and when there was a targets i'd call them in, as the round progressed the coms between sqds requesting bomber support and myself improved.

Wanna thank my sqd for doing a good job and getting 30+ kills manually guiding the bombs, and we spanked the brits 470- 0 something like that, gj team ;)

I personaly hate the idea of having 2 air squads, it just ruins everything. They will just never stay together because you need to keep telling the guys in the back when to cut throttle, put the afterburner on or turn. It's just impossible untill someone will connect all the pilots via mumble. Still, that event was fun, raping OD-S' jets 9 jet kills 0 deaths with the mirage xD
