Hello All,

For Starters, I don't really post/make threads on the forums but I think this is worth a post.

Since the weekend I haven't seen a flurry of players filling up servers playing this mod at all. Don't get me wrong it's a great mod, i'm not naive but I just don't want it to be another one week wonder like PRV was as the Devs have spent many hours breaking boundaries in making something new and exciting for us.

I just want to know what's up? I could be wrong, as I'm from the Uk it could be busier in different gaming time zones or the simple fact it's during the week.


I'm not trolling, I just dont want to see a mod going to waste.

Hmm I saw two servers filled last night, Running The Falklands (Acording to prspy atleast).

I dont think its going to waste, Falklands has some nice features like the 8x8km map etc, that sure will pull a lot of people together, just to have a look at such a large map, not to mention the 3km view distance. Its just perfect mate.

Though still remember its a minimod, even though yes a lot of time has been spent on it so far, but the main reason why it in your POV is not being played too much is maybe because its not been into developement for long compared to the original PR. I think that after some time it will be a usual map to have in rotation on people's server.

Yeah once PR 1.0 is out it will be in the normal rotation, it's already in the rotation of some servers (map votes), so it's getting pretty standard.

Falklands would appreciate organised well admined events with OK SL's and good pilots more then any other map IMHO.

So PRTA are trying to sort one for next Friday 19th but shhhhh

Plus this Saturday theres a GOOSE green Beta details at PRTA

I think servers are worried about overplaying the map.

it's got a reputation of crashing I think. People suggest falklands for map votes and too many claim it will crash, and thus it is not voted for.

Hopefully this will be rid of by 1.0

Or because.... yes it does crash and we are less worried about overplaying it than it killing our server populations, it's only really fun for pilots (at least thats what the majority of the people I've talked to believe), there are a ton of CTD's/freezing, there is literally ONE armored unit on the map, and generally a LOT of people hate it. I've been giving it the benefit of the doubt by including it on mapvotes, but it loses out to the regular PR maps every time. It can be decent for infantry battles, but the map always ends up with all the players in the air or waiting at the aircraft spawn like vanilla noobs. Not to mention a lot of the hardline PR players I've talked to hate the COD4 style no-deviation insta shoot after running ****. Yes, the time in .973 for deviation was excessive, but Falklands is plain nutty. The map needs some hiding spots for infantry and a primary engagement point like Kashan's bunkers. Right now, its just nothing but the most plain, open ground, ever! No bunkers, no foxholes, no nada! There are just so many problems with it, I cannot express them all succintly in one post.

The client freezing on falklands to falklands map change is a massive issue I agree. Once we find the cause of the problem then we will defiantly try and fix it but right now, we have nothing to go on, its a very odd bug...

TBH I haven't seen anyone have or had many CTDs myself. I know lots of people said they CTDed from spawning at the Arg airbase but not seen or had that problem myself and from what I understand it was something to do with the server?

Majority of people I've talked to really enjoy the map, most coming out to me ingame saying "man I love what you've done" when I'm trying to play

While yes some people really don't like it, it seems to me that its only a few people how have just been shouting it over and over again

And the lack of armoured vehicles I think is a good thing, makes the map different Do you guys really want me to make a clone of an already existing map that offers nothing new?

TBH not seen that myself. I only ever see one jet squad (two if Fighters and CAS are split up but still made up of 6 pilots between them) and everyone else on the ground. Most PR players are pretty sensible. IF anyone is waiting on the carrier then its because they have just died and its a good thing in my eyes as it means that the pilot can get up in the air in 5mins back to providing air cover and supporting the troops on the ground, rather than the failed concept of 20mins spawns which plainly doesn't work.

Pretty much what the war was fought over

Adapt and overcome people, you didn't see the troops fighting here say "this sucks I can't fight here, I'm going home!"

Most vietnam books
Aot of Korea books
Any Conscripts book in WW2
Most in the trenches WW1

The point however is they did adapt and overcame or where defeated

You show a barren landscape picture of the modern falklands, but every paper I have read has stated the Argentinians DID have crude prepared defensive positions, maybe not the Atlantic Wall, but still not completely without cover. And I don't believe the standard PR Firebase structures quite cover it. Right now, all you have done is make a clone of the Kashan desert in regards to infantry gameplay minus the bunkers. Nothing but empty ground with no cover from planes or armor.

I believe your map can offer something new without compromising the combined arms gameplay which makes the existing PR maps great. The addition of more ground vehicles will hardly detract from the work you have put into the map itself and the other gameplay tweaks, such as no binoculars. The flight time for aircraft is hardly an issue in current PR imo, and I don't see it being fixed in Falklands. All you have done is trade off a 20min spawn time for a 15min flight/5min spawn time, at least for the Argentinians.

Indeed, I have two big problems from making bunker areas. The first is the scale of the map, being 1:30 from what it was in r/l, so things like the defences for Goose Green I need to try and fit in, in a tiny space, not easily done...
The second is that since the terrain is mesh terrain, which is very hard to work with, dinging it little positions isn't straight forward like with normal terrain where you just morth the grid.

I didn't spend that might time on the map, my orignal plan was to get this map/mod done in a much smaller time scale than it took, and spent 90% of my time on the mod itself rather than the map. As such, dosen't have that much detail I know, would like much better rock formations for example, 99% of the rocks where placed with 3DsMaxs scatter tool.

Over time I hope people from the community can add more detail to the map, anyone is welcome to open it up in the editor and add more static detail to it then submit it to the next version

lol, 15min flight from Argentina? Possibly if your in a chopper but no choppers spawn there

Its more like a 3min flight tops and that's in the A-4. Its only 9km.

And umm, everyone complains about how small 4km maps are for jets

This is only the beginning of falklands imo, and after 1.0V will be integrated into normal maplists on different servers, definitely on NwA.


It has a lot of potential and as plod said, its a base for organized events and even clan matches.

Heh, it is pretty damn fun on the night layer as inf to run SAS style raids on the airfields of both teams. I love to run three man raids on the airfields with AA kits. People for some reason neglect to man the AA on the night layer, especially on carrier. A savvy helicopter pilot can place a load of infantry on carrier without being detected.

mmh not at all, there is way more hills and rocks and terrain elevation than on Kashan, also the lack of armored vehicles makes it easier to live for the infantry. I love playing INF in that map and working with the CAS.

Also, not all servers have the same demographic and kind of players. People I've played with like the new deviation and the map itself, it wins mapvotes a lot of time on some servers.

We still run it every day on =HOG= when we're seeding as it's a lot of fun flying the jets on such a big map. Then once the server is full we do one full round and I must say it's one of the best maps to come out recently. A victory with a 1000 tickets on each side is something that you need to work for, it's very satisfying.

A lot of players still seem to want to play it, just not for more than one round I gather.
