Good day all,

we're pleased to announce we'll be hosting a night of Burning Sands 1.5's newest revision. We will be running this map a few rounds in a row, giving both the skirmish and the full layer a trial run. This will be mostly to report and find bugs and to get a feel for the new map layout. Those of you who participated in the PRTA event know what to expect when it comes to the assets and new map layout. Those of you who didn't will get a second chance to try it out.

We don't usually organise events so this will be a very simple one where we basically run the map and see how it plays on a regular server. So no massive organisation but just plain old fashioned PR fun.

Commentary from mapper Rudd:

Burning Sands v1.5 is a big improvement on the version in 0.973, the objective was to make it much more optimised in terms of both RAM and FPS without losing too much detail from the map.

This has been accomplished quite well, 9000 objects have become 4000 objects without losing much from the city at all, however the South Western army base has been sacrificed; do not worry, I may transfer those objects to another map to be the focus of gameplay in the future on that map.

Thank you to all the testers who come to the event at HOG, and thank you to HOG for giving me a hand here. I hope everyone has a good time and doesn't give me too much work to do haha! When on the map keep an eye out for floating objects, visual disturbances etc. Please feel free to take screenshots and video during the game and putting it on youtube/etc. If you find a bug, a screenshot is very helpful. The map isn't 100% issue free yet, but with your help we'll get it there. In particular I need to know if people are able to load the map with low terrain selected in their video options at this time. I certainly appreciate feedback on the map that isn't bug related, but please leave that until after the event. Thank you again.

You will need these files to play! Even if you participated in the PRTA public test as the files have changed!

Unzip the file and drop it in your Battlefield 2 directory where it will merge into your mods directory. If you need any help, you are always welcome to jump into our ventrilo which is hosted at 208.100.45.10:3943 or post here.

Don't forget to load up your mumble as we'll be removing players who aren't on mumble when the server nears capacity.

I would also like to mention that we at =HOG= recently decided to give those players that have been perm-banned another chance at "getting it right". We have started fresh and completely wiped our Ban List on our PR Server...

dang wish i could make this, ive never been able to play burning sands for more than 10 minutes so hopefully i'll be able to play this version!

Sounds good, make sure to rename the server, and play the map all day as to not confuse the players, and so we can get a good game going, a couple times

There is TART on that night, thats wht Falklands was on Friday, and Brecourt Sunday, takes out around 60 decent players from the playerbase.

I'll show coz I'm not in TART anyway - you going to have a reinforced admin team on as these tests can sometimes get messy?

There will be plenty of admins, I'd estimate around 7-8 minimum. We have some non-clan members who are admins as well who will be present.

Event postponed, the new mapfiles have a bug where everyone crashes to desktop.

Sorry gents, we'll update with a new date when Rudd pinpoints the culprit in the mapfiles. It'll just be regular rotation tonight.
