I'll give you the full story.

I had 2 hard drives, 1 64 gig harddrive (main drive with OS on it) and a 1.5 terabyte hard drive.

My SSD was in SATA port 2 and my 1.5 was in port 1

While adding my new 120 gig SSD to port 4, the sata connector for sata 1 broke, so I replugged it into Sata port 3.

When I try and boot up I get an error text that says

"Reboot And Select proper Boot Device
or Insert Boot Media in Selected Boot device and press a key."

So I went into my BIOS when to boot and drives, found my SSD that contains my OS, highlighted it, and saved and exited, the same error keeps coming up though, anyone know a solution?

Try disconnecting all non OS drives and set bios to its default and save. Change sata port for the OS drive till it boots up.

When win boots up, re-connect all the other drives. Sometimes it's just acting up and requires two attempts.

Have had similar issue and I all I had to do was fiddle a little in the bios

Went into BIOS did the "set to default", computer loaded and I'm on my desktop, but when I go to my computer and I click on my new SSD it comes up as Q:\ is not accessible Access is denied. I know it's plugged in correctly because the BIOS can recognize it and it's information.

Ok assuming you already have bios set to AHCI for the SSD drives;

Did you just ''copy'' your windows install onto your new SSD, instead of installing it?

Install is recommended.

Have you formatted the SSD before use?

Format recommended.


Make sure the sata cables arent badly bent or something. Try different sata.

See if you can update the SSd's hardware on friedn's PC. If none of that helps, the drive could be DOA.

No, I did nothing with it, it was a battle to even get the BIOS to recognize the SSD, finally it did. I went into my computer from my start program and wham, said access denied. It knows the size of the ssd in my BIOS, who makes it, everything, but when I get onto my desktop it rejects it but knows something is there. So I haven't been able to copy anything over to it like I hoped. It also didn't come with a CD so formatting, I have no idea whats going to happen with it.

You can change the drive letter in disk management.

Drive comes up as
"Unallocated" Rather than "Healthy"

Rather stupid question, if I did "new simple volume" would it still act as an SSD. Because it adds (G and my corrupt one as (Q

I don't think the OS knows or cares if it is a SSD or a 7,500 rpm HDD or a 10k HDD. It just knows it is secondary storage.

Unallocated space is unformatted space.
I had a few bytes on one of my HDDs that said it was unallocated to test. I right clicked in the black bar and chose to create 'new simple volume.' Follow prompts and do not format it. I got an error at the end that it needs to be formatted before use, but clicked cancel or ignore and it looks like it worked to create the volume.

You'll have to test to be sure--Defintately want to back up your stuff before you start playing around.

Check if the SSD manufacturer has a utility to clone HDDs. Seagate had one last time I needed it and it was a bootable standalone product that worked like a charm to format, copy and make the new HDD active.

I'm too busy recovering from Hurricane Sandy to offer much help.

I suggest finding a program called EasyBCD 2.0.2 by NeoSmart Technologies , find a tutorial online. In short, if you can boot into any copy of Windows with your HDDs and SSDs all connected, you can change your MBR and the letters of drives on the next reboot. It will fix your problems.

did you format your 120gig SSD after you plugged it in?

I had to do it with my 60gig SSD before I got access to it.

Problem has been resolved

Administrative tools > Computer Management > Disk management

From there you go to your problematic hard drive and allocate it.
