[Weapon] RPG-29 [WIP](SY)

Post by Mineral »

hey, for our Syrian community faction Sgt.Frede has been modelling the RPG29. This will serve as the HAT for the SAF and we might make a pick up kit for it for the insurgents but that's not sure yet. Anyway,I came here to see if any feedback can be given upon it and some more general help in all the steps to be taken.

As a reference I'm looking at the M20 superbazooka since it's very similar. So as far as my knowledge goes it should be set up as this:

-GEOM0: 1P high poly mesh
-GEOM1: 3d scope
-GEOM2: 3p (with +-3 lods)

Is this correct? Now I'm talking ahead here, but once he gets to UV mapping, how should this be set up? 1p and 3p separate textures? Anyway, mostly looking for feedback on the model itself right now.

Nice just whats been missing all along. this weapon will bridge the gap between rpg and eryx.
BTW you should allow this weapon to be picked up at the Syrian rebels main base to up there AT ability seeming as Assad like his tanks so much.

Imo give the edge of the scope and the whole main cylinder more sides, it should look perfectly round in the 1p with out an excessive tri count.

But yeah, 1p, then a lower detail 3p, and a separate lower sized 3p texture.

I believe the RPG-29 has Iron sights too? I would do the scope and the ironsights. Also maybe model the projectile?

p3d.in - RPG29

Mineral uploaded a model with the same scope. So I took it since it was much more detailed than mine (I couldn't find any good reference pics of it)
I modelled the iron sight too. I don't know if theres another iron sight next to the scope?

This would be great for the Russians, too.

Looks good.

update, frede has done a lot of progress, in my eyes it looks good but I'm still looking for feedback on the model itself.

Here are some screens:

scope 3D:

scope 1P, how do the scopes need to be modelled for 1.0, should the be hollow? or just a plane to have a transparent texture over?

rocket

and here is the p3d link again:p3d.in - RPG29

triangle counts:
rocket: 796
3D scope: 1674
rpg 1p: 5499
total: 7969

the m20 has 6620 for this, and the rpg7 9886, so it seems we are ok on the triangle count?

The tri count is fine, HOWEVER. This is not done as there are lots of un-needed triangles we can remove and put back in places they will make a difference!

Uploading some pics now.

Edit; few main ones

You could also simply the rocket quite a bit with maybe re-creating it with 2-3 less edges as its only really seen during animation quickly. Also stuff like the nose of the rocket, you can weld every other vertex to the next one to keep the same silhouette but cut triangles.

Smoothing groups need to be sorted out also.

Yes Scope should be hollow all the way through with a cylinder at the front for the lens.

Is the scope from the Current RPG7? Could lose some edges but not a huge deal as it is right in the players face. for the 3p mesh you should be looking at some 4-5k triangles or less, with a baked down/resized 3p texture. Then good lods thereafter.

Keep it up :)

Regarding p3d, people use it a lot these days, but have you read their agreement? Basically, you stay owner of the model, but they can use it too - as they please. Just so you know ;) .
