What happened?
In my opinion the most fun I have ever had on PR was during the first few weeks of the vietnam release. I stuck around untill the beta patch split the community and it has never been the same since.
Does anyone else wish that we could rebuild the community? at the time I remember having so much fun on the servers now they are non existant.

The beta never "split" the community. Why do people say this?
Anyhow, install PR v0.98, you get Normandy, Falklands AND Vietnam. Everybody has it. It's just up to the servers to run it. And I see them run the maps every now and then really.

I still have a lot of fun on the servers. A game is as much fun as you can make it... same goes for teamwork and gameplay.unitedsas wrote:Does anyone else wish that we could rebuild the community? at the time I remember having so much fun on the servers now they are non existant.
If there's some gameplay/fun void that you think is missing, why not fill it?

I'm a big fan of Vietnam and WWII. I honestly don't see the problem.[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:The beta never "split" the community. Why do people say this?

The problem is, is that half of the admins these times don't want because I either prefer maps with CAS only or are too scared to run them because "it might crash" the servers. I am tired of this, because I really like these maps.

I really dig Ia drang, and I think a lot of other players do too. I've had some thrilling and very cohesive rounds on the map. Dien duong is pretty lackluster, and barracuda has some balance issues. Yeah there were some great games when vietnam was first released, especially with the huge servers, but Ia drang is still a good time and youll find servers play it sometimes.

Re: What happened?
Not Vietnam but still related but HOG run the Falklands Vehicle Warfare layer every day as a seeding map, although isn't as fun as the normal layer still good for a bit of a fly about ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
But ye, would be nice to see the servers running these minimods more.

Re: What happened?
Think one problem with Vietnam is the lack of many maps, and only a few solid maps at that that people want to consistently play. I know this is no fault of anyone, its more getting people to map more for Vietnam in the community and such.

Re: What happened?
We at [762] are running all maps on our server #1.
On the second server there are only the mini mod maps running.

Or maybe the maps aren't that good?(sorry)B.Pronk(NL) wrote:The problem is, is that half of the admins these times don't want because I either prefer maps with CAS
Perfectly good reason not to play a map. Worst thing I know is having a crash in a awesome round. Besides, starting over with seeding isn't that fun.B.Pronk(NL) wrote:only or are too scared to run them because "it might crash" the servers. I am tired of this, because I really like these maps.

And about the crashes, the map Ia Drang doesn't seem to crash very often. In my experience you have a bigger chance of crashing the server by loading Beirut than Ia Drang. But people keep getting excuses so they can play Muttrah for the 5th time that day. The "might" part in the sentence "because it might crash" it there to show that there is a chance but with every mapload there is a chance that the server will crash and especially with Ia Drang the chance of crashing isn't that high in my opinion. But even in 1.0 when these "problems" are fixed we will probably see that we play Muttrah 5 times a day and 'Nam maps maybe once a month.

Re: What happened?
Seen as it has been nearly I month since I posted, I have been playing quite alot and have played some awsome games on Normandy and vietnam mini mods. I have actually played with a few of the posters above as in game (Thargret_matcher).
Ive taken to leading squads this time and I am really enjoying it but I have still only played about 6 Vietnam maps where as I have played Muttrah atleast 25 times haha.
edit: Variety is the spice of life.

this could a hint, ww2 mod looks great even on low detail and thats a fact
ia drang and ding dong look awful, now im not hating but vietnam is great for those with a games desktop, us laptop pubbers i feel are a silent 50% of the servers.
love ww2 , the maps are beautiful especially brecourt manor and st low. they look good even on low

Re: What happened?
I think you may need to get your eyes checked. I do not mean any offense to the dev team of either mod, I understand the overwhelming workload and I also get that some people are learning as they go along.
That being said PN is no where near PV. Normandy is missing a lot of key animations, the weapon balance is skewed massively and even some of the models could use more polish to them. PV has much more "shine" to it, with a lot less glaring issues (Vietnamese voice over being one of the only ones I can pick off the top of my head). Are you saying you prefer the instant 1 frame hip to eye raising of weapons? Or is it the buggy maps that have holes in them?
I thoroughly enjoy both mini-mods and they both fit in nicely with the overall game, but PN is a lot further from feeling complete the vietnam...a LOOOOT further.

Re: What happened?
The WWII mod seems rushed. No scope on the German sniper kit? Pretty bad animations and the holes of death are highly annoying.
Vietnam on the other hand is amazing in my opinion. Some minor glitches and flukes, but other than that, I really enjoy it.
I've had some of the most intense action on Vietnam maps, it's just servers don't want to play them.
