GTX 680 bad FPS

Post by Spook »

Heyo,

I recently bought a Gainward GeForce GTX 680 Phantom 4GB with up-to-date drivers. Before that i was using a Sapphire Radeon HD 7870. With the Radeon I always had about 60-100 FPS Ingame.

Since I am a guy who always records gameplay, my recording FPS was always between 40-80. Minimum was 40, got never below that. And I was always recording in Full HD 1080p

With my GTX 680, which is way more powerful than the 7870, I get only 40-100 FPS...which means, that I get below 30 and sometimes even 20 FPS when recording. Even changing recording settings to 720p, still gets me an average FPS of only 40 ...and sometimes even below 30...which is simply not playable.

So whats the matter with that. I hate ATI for their crappy drivers and all the problems I always had with them. Thats why I changed to Nvidia. All other Games are working fine, I got much more FPS everywhere...just in BF2 I got less FPS than before. Any ideas?

I have the Asus Gtx 680 Dc2t and it works okay for me. But I'm also always between 60-100 fps. It never drops below that. Had the 5850 before with pretty much the same amount of fps. It could be the gtx 680 driver or sth...

No idea, i changed several settings on Nvidia panel without success. Still have shitty FPS. On Kokan or Fallujha my FPS is only 40 sometimes (without recording). This is ridiculous. I always had 60+FPS with my old card.

Anyone else has ideas?

I saw the same thing when I briefly "upgraded" to a single GTX 570 from two old 8800GT cards in SLI.

If anyone remembers, the 8800GT was a legend in all DirectX 9 and early DX10 games. My PC would easily stay above 60 FPS in most PR maps except for the ones with known problems. When I had the GTX 570 (for about a month), I would dip below 40 FPS in certain maps.

I could only conclude that Nvidia isn't focused on providing quality DX9 performance improvements in the latest drivers for their latest cards.

In an unrelated note, I just purchased two GTX 780's. :D

from my expierience I can tell that it doesnt matter if you have an old gtx 470 or a gtx 660ti gfx card.
at that gfx card level it doesn't make any difference to me. what matters is the the single core performance of the cpu.

but yeah, if you change from amd to nvidia, you might wanna take a look at the nvidia driver options and optimize the programm settings manually?

Yeah I tried some tweaks I found here on the forums but did not feel any difference. right now I am trying to disable the BF2 AA and enable nvidia driver AA instead. Maybe it will run better. Somehow it does not work though, the drivers do not enforce the AA settings for some reason.

As long as you do not record gameplay everything is good. You will have 60-100 FPS.

Got the AA working btw. No FPS difference though.

Your first error was to buy that card. Its overkill with current games and when games will be out, where you average 30 FPS, it will probably lack the features of newer cards and upgrading from one card to the next probably ends up being cheaper too.

It does not pay to splurge on a PC, unless you need the power right now for flight simulator or ARMA 2/3 or work.

I would have never bought it for the full price. I got the card very cheap. Could not resist the offer. And almost all games I play force the card to its limit, so I would not say it was wasted. I am pretty satisfied with its performance on all other games....except in PR :/

AnA10Warthog: on all maps? Fallujha, Ramiel? You stay at 80-100 FPS aswell? If so: Which Nvidia driver version are you using, and did you customize the driver configuration for PR?

I'm just interested to see if someone could do a "1ghz difference" OC cpu benchmark with these high end cards... to see how much of a difference it makes.

I could just turn off turbo boost and run the CPU at standard clock > 3,3 GHZ ...Ill test the FPS difference later today if I won't forget it.

But I mean like a proper FRAPS benchmark tool with a spreadsheet, max/min/average values and all that, taking the same route through the map :)
