The "SH-60"

After long debate, me and Black Beret can not tell what the helo with "Marines" painted on it is.

Here are the numerous things that are wrong with it:

Quote from another convo:

(My post BTW)
Image

What I hate is that there is a Marine H-60 (appears to be a SH-60, no not all SH-60s have FLIRs) with FFARs.

1) It carries soldiers, who shoot out of a helo filled with ammunition.

2) USMC only has H-60 model helos for VIP purposes.

3) Attack role SH-60s don't carry FFARs, they mainly carry Torpedoes, ASMs and AGMs.

4) Attack role SH-60s don't carry M134s and when a helo has M134s and FFARs, the M134s are fixed foward facing (obviously).
If they didn't mean it to be a SH-60 then I have no clue WTF they were thinking.

it's a make believe helo invented by EA/DICE, you stated it the best by saying it was shooting out the side with a huge missile pod right there

that picture is of a uh-60 black hawk. the guy says it in the demonstration trailers. just by painting it a different colour or putting missiles on it doesnt change its name. but who cares anyway. its a big badass helicopter that carries troops and fires missiles.

btw, shouldnt you first try this game before u make a realistic mod of it? who knows, battlefield 2 could be plenty realistic, and as bf 2 officials always say 'first gameplay, second realism'. which is true, because realism sucks. im not saying this mod will suck, but for things to be completely realistic wouldnt mean much fun at all. people dont want to buy a game for $50 or $100 and then be have to told how to play and what to do by the 'team leader' so to speak. they just wanna go out, grab a tank, blast the **** out of things, get in a plane, shoot down a few other planes and helicopters, then maybe form a little squad with 2 other guys and do a couple of objectives. forgotten hope is fun because they add lots of good looking vehicles, maps and weapons, but i wouldnt buy battlefield 1942 if it was made like that originally.
Battlefield is about doing whatever you want whenever you want

Green Beret & Black Beret, Good looking out.

@ seemoe, plz refer to our website for this statement:
The reason that this mod will be created will not be to satisfy the majority of BF2 users, but to satisfy that minority of players who seek more complexity then your average point and click.

Good post, GB.

Yes, Requiem, GB and I had a rather heated debate as to what this helo is "supposed" to be.

I came to the conclusion that the helo is an embarrassingly unrealistic and inaccurate portrayal of an MH-60L DAP. Due to the fact that it is mounted with FFAR pods and M134s.

Although the M134s should be fixed-forward-facing, as GB stated.

Not to mention that the USMC has no MH-60 models in their inventory.

if you want realism, my suggestions is that make the uncapturable bases (if there are any) out of bands for opposing teams. so as soon as they enter the vacinity of the enemy base they begin to die as if theyre going out of bounds.

I am aware of that.

I could not figure out where DiCE was coming from. I assumed that because of the naval color paint and Marine sign, they were trying to make it a SH-60.

Regardless of it's name, it has many accuracy problems like the Marines sign, the non fixed-foward facing M134s etc.

Yes, Black Beret, I have to agree with you that the closest thing it comes to is a bad ESSS e/UH-60L or a bad MH-60L DAP. It is closer IMO to the ESSS e/UH-60L.

I agree. It is an armed UH-60L w/ ESSS, but without fixed-forward-facing M134s.

Dice is known for making things uber realistic. Like the M-14 with 10 round mags. A lot of people didn't know back in the 60's the military had a ban on high capacity 20rd magazines.

Everyone always forgets the dipping sonar on the SH-60! :D

does it really matter, its a UH-60, if it ends up being retarded when the game is released we can optimize the model to Reality Standards

Greenie was just bringing this to your attention.

Thus the ""s.

I knew it didn't look like a SH-60, I just assumed due to it's paint and the Marine sign, that's what they wanted it to be.

The main point of the post was showing the non-fixed foward facing M134s, the Marine sign and the troop carrying capability.

How about a M134 spouting '000s of rounds a minutes into 70mm rockets?

Sorry, just found this thread. Perhaps it's a typo and they meant to put MH-60S, aka Knighthawk, which entered service in 2002. Not used by the Marines, but is used by the Navy (including aboard amphibious assault ships), and it is the Blackhawk airframe (note position of tail-boom landing gear) with Seahawk powerplant, and unlike the Seahawk can carry the Blackhawk ESSS.

It's mostly used for logistics, but can be used in the CSAR / strike sescue and special ops support roles. The two dedicated special ops support squadrons are still flying HH-60Hs, though, AFAIK.
