Re: [Weapon] AKM [WIP](SY)
First of all, is this supposed to be high-detailed 1st person model or lesser?
Stock: buttplate is NOT that bent; it is a relatively straight piece that digs into your shoulder sending pain and love of motherland right where it hurts. For purpose of 3d models in-game; might as well leave it straight.
Looks to me that vents(on handguard) are a little too thin and long. Need to be a little wider(or simply increase gap between upper and lower handguard) and shortened a little.
Palm swell on handguard seems a little too thin(like on SVD); it should stick out a little more(with smaller size on the top rectangle, of course).
Right side of right, above barrel, directly in front of handguard(where lower handguard retainer is) should have a rectangle and textured to look like Lower handguard takedown lever.
Bolt handle looks way too thin. :L Same deal with top cover button(too slim, need to be fatter horizontally)
Pistol grip shape looks off where it is next to trigger guard; need sharper angle.
Frontsight block hole (between barrel and sight drum) can be bigger.
Rear sight block(where it touches slider on rear sight) looks off.
Magazine catch is bent; it is not bent IRL as far as I know.
Slant brake should be rotated to the right(45 degrees?); it does not simply point up at least on all the AKM I have seen.
For all intents and purposes the selector switch should be modeled at FULLauto(the only way to operate a Kalashnikov rifle) position.
Top cover seems off as well; especially on the front(two horizontal bands instead of vertical; and missing all vertical extrusion).
Receiver on model is not straight... AKM receiver is not like galil; AKM receiver(bottom of it) is straight and angled up slightly(compared to barrel/horizontal).
Also, I find it weird that rivets on receiver(huehuehue romanian huehuehue) were modeled but pins were not.
That is...unless this "akm" is based on some obscure model or very very old ones.
I highly recommend better reference pictures.

Re: [Weapon] AKM [WIP](SY)
Will this replace the AK-47 in PR?

I was going to pick up 3d modeling to make some AK variants myself; but college got in the way(these days I do not even have time to play PR).

No proper smooth groups on the model. Try to fix it too. Might be just p3d.in view?

I can really imagine swinging this thing around in-game. Looking sweet! I think you have enough to go off with Comrade's suggestions
..Lining up the sights in the preview seems impossible to do right

That picture reminded me:Sgt.BountyOrig wrote:
Top of stock(where it touches receiver) need a lowered flat part)even better for lowering # of tris, right?) because that is where stock tang goes.
As can be seen in picture(great reference for shape of stock and handguard); the top of stock actually has a place where stock tang from receiver digs into it.

Re: [Weapon] AKM [WIP](SY)
dont really have time but based on the pic posted on page before. no need to model the grooves on the magazine. normal them. use the tris on the stock, its really lowpoly, and since its close you need more tris.
edit: it burns me, not critting
red: remove and later normal map
blue: add detail, the stock is waaay to lowpoly

Charging handle on the bolt assembly could use work

Selector switch as well.

Read sights need worked, its just a strange block taken out, also the front sight needs adjustment.

Pretty key to aiming.

Re: [Weapon] AKM [WIP](SY)
For the 1st person model I would actually model all those bits since your side on to them when holding the gun normally which means normals wont be very effective. Although they need some cleaning up on their smoothing and also welding up if they aren't already.Doc.Pock wrote:dont really have time but based on the pic posted on page before. no need to model the grooves on the magazine. normal them.
If you look at our AK-47 and pretty much any of our weapons you will see they are modelled:
But ye, stock needs a lot more tris.

He is working on the stock as far as I know.
And yeah, those bits are gonna be modeled. It will look bad if they are only on the normal.

Re: [Weapon] AKM [WIP](SY)
if its for a modern engine crank those tris up
the mag release is way too small, and also kind of completely wrong, and there needs to be a rail on the left side, the recoil compensator is pointed to the left and up,
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... _MP5K.JPEG
the grip detail, needs to be extruded some more, also the upper receiver it doesnt come to an abrupt end like that its rolls over, pretty much on rear part of the AK light needs to flow, and not come to an abrupt end, the barrel is much too thin, the front post needs to be more rounded and shorter,
http://fotodes.ru/upload/img1351281825.jpg
the modeler needs to search a lot more for references, it looks like it was made from memory and not from proper references.

Re: [Weapon] AKM [WIP](SY)
Hows this as AKM(when it comes to real life counterpart, and not too detailed, just overall, cause I want a proper placeholder while Elirah finishes his model):
AKM:
AKMS:
Texture can easily be edited. Mostly about the general model and shape.

I don't recall ever seeing a type 1 with folding stock. Not to mention the stock is backwards on the folding version.
Why not just use AK-74 model already existing in PR? Just remove the muzzle brake part and modify the gas block a little and it will look pretty close to what you want.
