Project Reality: BF2 Launcher has stopped working

I recently sent in my laptop that I was playing PR on for repairs and I am now using a spare toshiba satellite p250d SMD Turion (tm) 64 processor operating on vista. I re-downloaded bf2 on steam and re-downloaded PR from torrent, but now when I attempt to start PR windows sends me a message that says Project Reality: BF2 Launcher has stopped working
fixes I have attempted already: BF2 is up to date I tried uninstalling pr and re installing same problem I tried no compatibility and running as and as not an administrator
Please send suggestions or questions I am desperate!
