Need some advice on upgrading.

As a gamer who spends most of his time on console rather then on the PC, I have been playing Project Reality since the Falklands came out, but not recently. For the past few months I rarely get on because the laptop I play with, is not one really designed for gaming and it's been crapping out on me. In game I suffer from low FPS and if it's not that, it's high ping ging me trouble.

Just recently, I bought a new PC so I can make my return to PR. The reason I bought one instead of building my own rig is because I'm on a budget and this one was affordable. I'm pretty sure this can handle PR but I don't think it might not handle PR2 when it is release considering it's being built on the CryEngine 3.

The specs on this PC is:
  • AMD FX-4300 Quad Core Processor 3.8GHz (4MB Cache)
  • 8 GB DDR3 RAM
  • NVIDIA GT610
  • 500 PSU
  • 1024GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I plan on upgrading the graphics card to a GeForce GTX 650 Graphics Card but, I don't know if I need to upgrade anything else. The games that I want to play when I get this PC are ARMA 3, Battlefield and Insurgency at least on medium to high. So what else do I need? and keep in mind I'm on a budget. Thanks.

Keep in mind that the 650 is still a weak card - but it's a hell of a lot better than that 610. Then again, pretty much anything is better than a 610 - which will most definitely not handle PR2.

I'd get a Radeon 260X over that 650, by the way. They'll both cost you about the same, but the 260X has significantly more horsepower

Otherwise I think you should be good to go.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. Do you think I need anything else if I do get it?

You should be, at first glance anyways, good. Get somebody else to take a look though - ask Littoralis here or go to the forums on a site like Tom's Hardware.

Hiya,
ShockUnitBlack is on the money,
The GTX650 or the Radeon 260X are both in the same price point,
I also agree that you will see better performance per dollar spent if you buy the Radeon 260X.

Just for your information, the GT 610 is a rebranded GT 520, with a very slight firmware update, so if looking at comparisons online, you can compare any new GPU to a GT 520 and/or GT 610 also.

I've been researching the GT 610 as well and that's what I keep on hearing about it. and I'll take a look at the Radeon 260x to see if it's worth it, Thanks for the advice.
