Freezes and the "Blue Screen"

I have been having problem with freezes, and slow internet. Some of the issue is that I do have slow internet from AT&T, but it is unusually slow now. When opening a tab, the website freezes for a sec and loads very slow.

Another is that as time went on, Everything would freeze when on the internet. After it froze, it went to a quick black screen, then an AMD error says a driver stopped working.

Today, all of this added up to a blue screen.
Slow start up, lead to little freezes, then the driver stopped working, then a new tab lead to a blue screen. It went by to fast to get the code, but I did catch it saying "dumping files: #."

I have no problems with games or any other applications. Only Firefox and Chrome decide to mess up my PC.

I did get a new gpu in Dec. My CD/drive did not work so had to install the drivers off of AMDs website, not off the CD given to me.

Steam has been acting slow as well. Slow loading and slower download rates as normal.

have not downloaded anything that might compromise my PC either.

What could be the problem?

Firefox and Chrome for 64-bit tend to use a lot of memory. You only have 4 GB.

Put some more RAM sticks in your machine if you can. It's one of the cheaper upgrades where you'll see instant results.

I just checked NewEgg, Amazon, TogerDirect, eBay, etc. Looks like you can get 2x 2GB sticks at your current speeds for $50 or less. Your motherboard supports up to 16GB.

Did you really uninstall the older GPU driver from previous card?

No... really no. That is a very warped view of the computing world that you have there. Even if things happen to a resource hog, 4GB is more than sufficient for daily computing, and the vast majority of gaming as well. To counter your point, with windows 7 64bit, chrome with over 30 tabs (several youtube tabs open), just over 2.5GB are being used total (not just by chrome).

I had a similar problem years ago, I believe it was something shockwave related, but that's going back a little. It's obviously something on the software side that's causing this, unless you have hardware that is actually failing (like bad RAM sectors or something, that would cause a BSOD, but it doesn't sound like that)/.

22cal, if we can get the actual BSOD message the next time this happens we can eliminate 95% of the guesswork here.

Can you please follow this tutorial to prepare your system to not automatically rebot upon a BSOD.
How To Disable the Automatic Restart on System Failure in Windows 7
This way you can either grab a cellphone/camera pic or write down the error message and post it in this thread.

With that info, psyrus and I can narrow down the possible culprits really quickly with a bit of googling and our collective troubleshooting knowledge.
