If the devs got hold of the source code...
Like most people I get that occasional fantasy of being super rich. And in that fantasy I buy the battlefield 2 source code and give it to the PR devs. So I wonder: would the devs want the source code? What would they do first with it? What would the players want to see in a unrestricted PR?

The LCAC would be interesting. The fast ropes are something that seems to get constantly requested but even the guys that made BF2 had so much trouble making fast ropes work well that they gave up.

Why exactly is the LCAC impossible to be made?

Because if vehicle 'a' is on top of the vehicle 'b', the one on top will be damaged (depending on the type of vehicle) and will slide around whenever vehicle 'b' moves around.Jutsch wrote:Why exactly is the LCAC impossible to be made?
Unless you made a vehicle spawn on the vehicle not on the map, then it can stay static but once moved, it will slide around.
Lion's Roar mod has an aircraft carrier that spawns vehicle on it self. Whenever the carrier moves, that spawned vehicles will stay static unless moved by a player.

It's more of a joke now than anything (personally I'd never let people use them since it requires hovering stationary as opposed to just going a meter or two lower and having them all out at once). In either case, the BF1942 era DICE were pretty sure that helicopters were impossible until Trauma Studios went and did it in Desert Combat.O.Ortega wrote:The fast ropes are something that seems to get constantly requested but even the guys that made BF2 had so much trouble making fast ropes work well that they gave up.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Well the thing is that as far as I know the PR devs gave fastropes their best shot at it only to give up. It isn't necessarily impossible. It's just that the devs tried their best and if someone else somehow gets it to work it isn't because the devs were lazy.mat552 wrote:It's more of a joke now than anything (personally I'd never let people use them since it requires hovering stationary as opposed to just going a meter or two lower and having them all out at once). I do agree that fast ropes won't do much good. People want them because of "rule of cool".
Edit: Or at least it seems like rule of cool.

A change in the dialogue when requesting a helicopter.
Instead of "Requesting a vehicle drop at this location", make it "Requesting helicopter transport at this location"

Ue4 is free, even you can DL it right now and make a house/map/game. Which is what Squad is using and Ground Branch, aka former PR dev members/team.Cassius wrote:If you are superrich buy me a Challenger R/T . And the Devs the Unreal 4 engine.

The ability to properly diagnose server crashes. Is that too boring? ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

I highly vote for this! I do not remember server crashes this much back in Mod days, but my lord, seems I am finding a new server or waiting to re-fill about every 1 in 3 times I sit down and do some PR.[R-DEV]piepieonline wrote:The ability to properly diagnose server crashes. It's all very very random too, some at start, some right in middle, some at the most awkward time when there is no battle lol.

Okay I guess he can afford to throw in some sick rims with that challenger. I kinda thought Squad was using the unreal 3 engine. If they use 4 thats better of course, seen as engines age (some horribly) and that sort of game will be sitting with the engine it has at launch indefinitely.BlazeDBe3 wrote:Ue4 is free, even you can DL it right now and make a house/map/game. I think that Squad and Project Reality 2 should not be using such new engines because it makes it pretty much impossible to have the same amount of content. The fact that games are now distributed online means that even if the amount of content that PR has was included in the successors to PR, it would be two much for most people to download. I think that PR needs a engine that gives the developers the freedom that they need for feature implementation but also lets them keep the old content in the new engine by "upgrading" the current models with new textures and extra details like working speedometers.

I am gonna have to decline on the 2 much for most people to download. You just really have to do it once, lets assume its really big and like 20 Gigabyte (or more even), I really dont see the problem, even if it takes one or 2 days to torrent. Now I dont know what the internet situation is like in SA though.
Now if you say that it is by far easier and faster to use the UR 3 engine over the UR 4 engine I will just have to take your word for it.
