Lashkar Valley

Post by fecht_niko »

Since the AAS layouts got removed (scope long range rapefest) why not add something different.

Make a soviet-afghan war map of it without changing any terrain, just factions and assets.

Ironide russians (grozny desert camo) vs Taliban

AAS Std:

RUS: 2 Logis, 3 Trucks, 1 Mi-8, 1 Hind-E
Taliban: 2 ammocars, 3 Techies, 4 AA-Kits

AAS Alt:

RUS: 2 Logis, 3 Trucks, 1 Mi-8, 2 BTR80
Taliban: 2 ammocars, 3 Techies, 2 SPG-Techies

The Russians would speak German or the Germans would speak Russian. Can't change the team languages from what's defined as default, the only reason we can have USA/USMC/CF and MEIns/MEC is because they use the same language.

Why not create "2" maps like dovre & dovre winter?

Name it lashkar & lashkar 1979

Well that would solve the problem. Unscoped RUS faction for Laskhar 1979 8-)

main thing is, we don't have player/vehicle textures, kit geoms etc for that era and they would need to all be made, something the community could do however ;)

Not really. Taliban can stay as they are, and RUS should use same kits as on grozny. thats it.

The Mujahideen used quite a different set of weapons from the modern Taliban, mainly since the modern Taliban have been largely equipped by the Soviet withdrawal and what they left behind, with also sales from the fall of the Soviet union back into it. Back then they naturally didn't have anything like as many Russian weapons as the Taliban do now and afaik, mainly had Lee Enfield and other bolt action files?

Gronzy was also 5 to 10 years after the end of the Soviet-Afghan war and that is quite a bit of time for kit to change, and while I'm not aware of the exact differences, looking at some pics they look pretty different bits of kit and camo to what is seen on Gronzy?

This is also not forgetting all the little HUD and code stuff needed for both new factions, such as all the different flag icons and code to make the factions work. Putting the modern day Russians with their flag, on a map where the Soviets should be, is like putting the modern day Germans with their flag, for the PR:WW2 Germans....

But yes, if you guys want it, I would really advise you to do the work yourself as its not that technical, its more just the effort that needs to be put in and doesn't take that much to learn how to do it and if someone wanting to needs some help with it, make a topic in the community modding forums and we can point you in the right direction :)

Is camo that big of a deal, Falklands was rolling with modern DPM for almost a year, no?

PR:F wasn't officially integrated into the mod, not even in v0.97 where the maps where added to the main mod, but still wasn't actually part of the mod, since all the custom factions, vehicles, weapons and other code/textures, where all part of the map and not the core files, if that makes sense. Could get away with it a bit yes, but really needs proper ones making long term at the very least and may only require a few edits of the old ones, but vehicle camo looks like it would need quite a bit of work from the pics I've seen.

But we aren't going slap our current Russians and Taliban together and call it the 1980s Soviet-Afghan war :p

I dont think that everything has to be 100% realistic like many of the current maps and factions show.

If we use the old russian desert camo without scopes like Grozny and add old vehicles like btr80, bmp2, hind and trucks only than it should simulate the Soviet-afghan war pretty precisely. And for gameplay aspects I'm sure it's better to have taliban with AKs.

I build a team to make this Lashkar Valley 1979 map. The beta map will be finished in the next 10 days so we can try some things out.

Maybe make it a "modern war" between Russia and Taliban. As far as I know the same was done for Ramiel which loosely re-enacts the Battle of Mogadishu.

I prefer unscoped factions to avoid the open area camping on this map because its mostly open.

Guys this map and PR would really benefit from simply adding an AAS layer like the one seen on Bamyan ALT where the Taliban assault the checkpoints. New maps take a long time to create so a gameplay changing addition like this is a great way to mix up the experience on the map rather easily.

Would love to see another map where the Taliban are forced to go on the offensive.

Bump. This should be possible now with the new update that allows multiple language factions on the same map, right?

I think AAS on Lashkar would be a ton of fun. Obviously I would prefer a Soviet faction but Russian is similar enough.

Can RU on Alt layer get Mi-24 for authentic Afghanistan experience, of course, only whit unguided rockets?
Also, AAS layer whit RU vs Taliban sounds good to try and probably more easy to balance compared to GER.

I did some research and it seems there used to be Lashkar AAS Taliban vs Germans, but they removed it because of balance issues. But other than the balance, people seemed to enjoy it (based on forum posts)

Yeah G36 and Pumas were just too OP for the Taliban. Also cache locations on this map can be either very good for Taliban or complete trash. There is really no in between.
