I have downloaded the game, followed all the instructions on the instillation guide, and have DirectX 9,.NET framework and Visual C++ all installed and up to date. However, every time I press play and the game goes to launch, the screen goes black and I am given this error message.

Debug assertion failed!

Can you try setting both your PC and the game to a more standard resolution? To test.

These days to ensure dx9 is installed it seems we are obliged to run the offline installer otherwise it seems dx decides v9 is to old and we don't need it anymore.

Is that a USB Mic or headset? They can cause problems check with dxdiag or sound manager you have only one sound in or out active

Do you have BF 2?

1. What is the best standard resolution to set it to?

2. I have no idea what the offline installer is.

3. It's a snowball USB Mic.

4. I have BF2 on steam, but I was told you didn't need to have it installed to play the game as it's now standalone. I can install it though if need be.

1. Something normal 16:9 What is your monitors native resolution? Set game and system to match.

This is my favourite thing to try.

I don't know what causes tis error for sure have a look here.
