Website Update 2019

Post by Mineral »

As many of you noticed, for the last few days the website has been offline. This was done as a set of very necessary updates had to be applied. While these were planned a long time ago, we decided to do them now with a higher urgency as right before we took the website offline, we noticed that our forum database had been tampered with. However, at this time we do not believe any data was compromised. No passwords or personal data were acquired.

However, as a precaution and to start the upgraded forum with a fresh start in terms of security for all users, we have reset the passwords for everyone. Meaning you will have to use the password reset system to properly regain access to your account. As always, we recommend to never use the same password on two services and suggest to use a password manager. If you have any trouble getting access back to your account, feel free to contact us on any platform you can find us or use the contact form.

Now what work has been done while the website was offline? You can read a more detailed description of it here. In short the following was done:
  • Updated our webserver
  • Upgraded forum software and it's dependencies
  • Improved security and performance of various webpages and systems
  • Improved our outgoing email system
This comes with the benefit of not only increased security but also a noticeable performance boost throughout the various pages and the forum.

We want to thank our webteam, [R-DEV]Senshi and [R-DEV]TheRealFritz for their work here.
Now we are going to back into our basements, continuing work on v1.6!

[R-DEV]Senshi also wrote a blog that puts in more insight about the incident and maintenance period. Click here to read...

Good work guys! I do know how it is to have a forum needing version upgrade for years, but it just has so many issues, one being the time and courage to start...

Btw, any chance to have forum editor WYSIWYG mode back? It disappeared (at least for me) at some point last year and i've asked it a couple of times. Would be awesome, editing long event announcements in BBCODE is clean and nice, but i would still enjoy an easier way for most of the editing ;)

Because apparently this needs clarification:

Do NOT use the same password you used before! You must consider that password compromised / stolen! If you have been so careless as to use that same password anywhere else, you also MUST change the password on those services as well.
Never use the password you had here before the incident again anywhere else.
