Does the directory actually exist?
Run as administrator and see what happens.

Sorry for my late reply.

The directory exists and I have tried running as admin.

I also tried launching the game from the BRBF2 application in it.

got an error saying I need to use the launcher found at
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Project Reality\Project Reality BF2\mods\pr\bin"

But Still got the same error message.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled. Deleted and rebooted. redownloaded it a few times.

Not sure if I'm missing something really basic.

but I'll keep trying...

Delete whole /Project Reality/ directory in documents, then relaunch the game.
