I think the current audio warning tone should be amplified for easier recognition. I also think there should be a visual warning on the pilot's HUD.

If the developers can differentiate between radar and IR guided missile targeting systems then I think the earlier in-game version should be implemented specifically for IR missiles.

Re: Radar Warning Receiver
I don't think we can add a delay to a HUD symbol popping up like we have a delay to the sound, without a delayed sound it was too easy for pilots to pop flares and get away, at least when we implemented it but that was a long time ago and might need a review.

Rhino wrote:Indeed, as mentioned many times before, the BF2 engine only has two Target Objects. (Well, technically there are three target objects but only two can be attach to another object as the "TTUnique" target is used for weapons that guide their own projectile like wire-guided ATGMs and can't be attached to a vehicle/projectile).
TTHeat - which is attached to aircraft and flares, and what all Air to Air & Surface to Air Weapons track (with the exception of CLOS SAMs like the Blowpipe).
TTLaser - which is attached to the Laser Designator (in vBF2, land vehicles as there was no SOFLAM) and what all Air to Ground Weapons that lock onto the painted target, like LGBs, track.
This is also what the Exoect Anti-Ship missile tracks on the Falklands map all other air to ground weapons used by the Argentinians on that map are dumb weapons so it's freed up for that use.
We currently have no way to, or expect to have any way to, add any more Target Objects to the BF2 Engine, nor do we have or can think of any decent workarounds the current missile tracking system that would be better and allow for more target objects.
We obviously would love to have the ability to have different targets between Heat Seeking and Radar Tracking Weapons, and many more on top of that, but we can only work with what we've got.

Re: Radar Warning Receiver
Okay, I do remember reading your post at some point. I'm a little bit confused with the specifics of the previous and current audio warning relating to what you said about the problem with a visual warning on the HUD. Is there still a small delay for the audio warning when you appear on an adversary's radar? I agree it is fair, if that's the case, because it would be too easy for pilots to get out of the danger zone, especially in regard to SAM's. SAM's and AAM's are currently still effective. I like the current system because it appears like players are warned when they're being electronically tracked instead of when locked on and essentially, already fired upon for radar guided missiles.
Will the current audio warning be amplified in the future?

You want it to be louder? Increase your in game sound effects?friendly wrote:I think the current audio warning tone should be amplified for easier recognition. I also think there should be a visual warning on the pilot's HUD.
It's kinda annoying ESPECIALLY for Blufor forces. The sound is rather headache inducing than anything else, I prefer the Opfor warning tone because it's easier on your ears.
Many people think the Blufor warning tone sounds like a 'microwave' and is rather annoying, It doesn't sound nothing like ALR67 To my knowledge. I was expecting something like this https://youtu.be/PsZTDpFU0TE?t=350
