v1.6.7 - Update Highlights

Post by Mineral »

In today's highlight we would like to introduce some of the bigger additions and changes coming with the release of v1.6.7 for Project Reality: Battlefield 2. This comes with a brand new gamemode, a new deployable for the PLA as well as the usual bugfixes and quality of life improvements. Enjoy the update!

New gamemode: Gungame

We all know that seeding servers can be boring when the number of active players is below a certain threshold. Aimed to be played with a player count lower than 30 players, we believe this will be a good alternative to skirmish and make it easier to seed servers.

In this new fast paced mode, players have access to a single gun, a knife and 3 patches. Every time you kill an enemy you advance to the next level and get rewarded with a new gun. Additionally your health and patches are regenerated. Your current level is displayed by the amount of kills in the scoreboard and the first one to beat all 35 levels wins.

If you're killed, you will be able to re-spawn immediately - there's no medics or revives in this game-mode. To keep this gamemode fast, you have infinite stamina to run around the map. Outside of that all other mechanics you know from infantry are intact. You will have to deal with deviation, suppression and bleeding just as in any other gamemode.

The players are still split into two teams, but everyone works for themselves to win. Even your own squad is working against you. Killing soldiers of your own team is punished by degrading you to the previous level.
You'll be able to experience gungame in the following locations:
  • Black Gold 16 & 64
  • Wanda Shan 16
  • Dovre 16
  • Asad Khal 16
  • Al Basrah 16

PP-87 Mortar

The 82mm mortar PP-87 will replace the Podnos on the Chinese armies. It got created by Hokunin and is based it of his Podnos model. With this addition the PLA and PLAMC again get a step closer to their real life equipment.

Ammunition:
  • HE DPS/PP87-82
  • SMOKE DPF/PP87-82
Quality of life changes

In this update we constantly try to improve the user interface to be easier to understand with less hidden features. For this we added buttons to the kit requesting to explicitly show the options for STD and ALT kits. Additionally we made requesting kits easier as you now instantly switch to the new kit and no longer need to press a button to pick it up.
In the same way you will now always pick up the kit you died with when getting revived (unless someone else is using it).

To make it easier to join the squad you want, you will now be able to join squads while dead. However if you joined while dead, you will not be able to use the squads rally point until you spawned in at least once. This is to prevent abuse by joining a squad with close by rally after you died.

Lastly, you will now be able to see the reason the admin used to kick you in the main menu. This will make it easier to understand why you got removed.

This is a gamemode that only works on public online servers. For now it is not supported for local play.

There is a small bug that makes the server browser for deployment not show the gamemode name if it is gungame. We will fix this in a future patch. But if you see a server with a blank gamemode, changes are high it's running gungame :)

We don't have gungame bots, no.

Unfortunately, this game mode is not close to the Project Reality original purpose.

This is true, but we tried to keep the individual game mechanics of infantry combat intact. If you have further feedback on how to make it feel and play more like regular PR, feel free to suggest in the feedback thread.

The distance from PR's purpose comes from the required individual game play of the game mode.
Its stimulus to lone wolf game play may be good for some new young blood, but it is certainly a very different approach for old players like me.

Yeeesh. With that attitude I'm surprised that PR didn't go full sci-fi or other unrelated to the mod stuff just because it's fun. ;-)

Dude, chill. It's just a gamemode made for low player counts, it isn't replacing AAS and INS. It's funny that people complain about this one, but Skirmish is essentially team deathmatch and in most cases people just go around running and gunning with no concern for their teammates, and no one complained about that. I also haven't seen anyone complaining about VW that allows people to one-man tanks and APCs.

It's just a curiosity gamemode. If anything, what really ruins PR are the cheaters.

The players are not in clans nowadays as they were before. Therefore, they usually play in an unorganized squad which in turn plays in an unorganized team. In AAS and certainly also in skirmish game modes, the team with the better organization usually wins the match. Players in clans play much more organized than random players.

No one complains if "people go around running and gunning with no concern for their teammates" just because this was their choice. There is no option in this game mode other than "go around running and gunning with no concern for their teammates".

Although this is not a topic for this thread, I do not see many cheaters. For every cheater, I see a hundred players (and ex-players) afraid of being killed by a possible cheater.

No problem dude, just be sure to join and help seeding the server on the 1 000 000th time on Fallujah followed by Gaza and then Kokan, lm sure you will enjoy your play set building FOBs for 10min and then getting some sporadic action for hours. Dont forget to rejoin us tomorrow for the exact same thing!

This is a much needed addiction to seed servers although its far from the original PR concept it was absolutely needed. Skirmish like it was mentioned its basically TDM and doesn't work to seed servers and most often than not it depops them. The usual players that seed are usually no mics, or at least were when l seeded servers and it was nearly impossible to have coordinated SQs, and if you did its not properly a good idea because you can foresee the effect of a organized SQ agaisnt a mob of players with low comunication and possibly new players (low skilled a lot of new faces that arent aware of the idea behind the seed)

Well... I personally liked being a SL on skirmish modes because this is, for me, only place where I can learn that role without massive pressure from teammates. Of course a lot of times you'll end up with bunch of no-mic lone-wolfing people.
Brotherscompany wrote:(low skilled a lot of new faces that arent aware of the idea behind the seed)
About that sentence. This is strange how times changes. I remember when people would explain the idea of game, of teamwork, game mechanics etc for those new faces rather complains that they exist. I mean, everyone was a noobie.
